The zip on my seat has broken, can I get it repaired or do I need a new seat cover?

Brake the lock and then you need to buy a new one

In order to repair this you must have the seat back cover removed, since you really don't know what is broken inside and it is a safety issue I would have the dealer repair this.

I used zip ties to tighten it back down on my 2006 navigator. Sounds like same flaw in manufacturing covers many year models. The zip ties( large ones) helped for a long time but I'm still looking for better longer term fix myself.

The left hinge breaks often enough that Brother changed the part number of the part. I hope that means the new part is stronger; I haven't seen one come back for a second repair. Assuming it's the larger, left hinge that's broken (It always is.), you need an LP2403001 HINGE ASSY L. You can find it from a servicing dealer or online, and it's easy to replace.

Look at the back of the machine and find two large phillips screws in holes. They keep the hinge blocks from coming up all the way out of the machine. Remove both of them and lift the top cover up until it's connected only by its cable. It might take a helper to hold the cover, but you need to unscrew the hinge assy. from the top. The three screws are obvious and easy to reach now that the cover is loose. Put the new hinge on, lower the top back down so the hinges drop into their holes, and put those screws back into the holes in back. You're done.

This model you will need to remove the bottom plate first and the top cover next. the cover can be gently pryed off with a screwdriver left and right sides from the back to the front. first put the new belt on the roller and then put roller on vac insert new belt thru hole and pull onto the motor shaft. move roller by hand to center on pulley. and then replace hood and screws

left hand pannier lever lift it as if you was to remove the pannier you will see a smal lever in there then the seat will lift the seat is in to parts.the oil cap is on the right hand cam cover pull off the silver cover it just pulls off to the left watch when you do not to pull off the plug cap.check the level with the bike upright and top up 1/4 of a litre max at a time then run the engine let it sit for a min then recheck

most yamaha bikes have fuse box mounted behind left hand sidecover beside sarter relay or under the seat behind the battery

Each soft close 'Barrel' is handed - one left - one right. (One is grey - the other white).

Most soft close errors occur because the seat hinges come loose. When this happen, the barrels slightly pull-out of the seat. (There are silver discs on the barrels - These should be tight against the seat).

Once the barrels become loose the first thing that happens is the top cover won't soft close - but the seat still does.

To rectify - puch both barrels tighly into fitting and tighten the hinges. (See below).

To tighen the seat hinges you need to get a flat headed screwdriver underneath the chrome round hinge cover - and 'flick off'. Underneath is a X head screw which id also hexagonal. You can either tighen both by spanner - or screw driver. (sometimes these can be tricky - but it will come off).

If both cover AND seat do not soft close AND the barrel silver discs are firmly located against the seat - the barrel has probably broken.

The PVC valve is located in the valve cover (top "cover" of the engine, near the oil filler cap) On DOHCs, it is immediatly to the right. On SOHCs, it a few inches to the left.The PVC valve is held to the valve cover with a rubber grommet type seat.

1. Remove the hose that connectes the throttle body unit to the PVC valve.
2. Using your hands, remove the PVC valve from the rubber seat. Wiggle it back and forth, then pull it straight out.
3. You can either clean this with carb cleaner, or simply replace it with a new one (<$5 at most auto stores)
4. Put the PVC valve back into the rubber seat and replace the hose
