This is important; because, if you cannot get into Recovery Mode, then this is a sure sign of a bricked player. You could try a forced hard reset by going in and disconnecting the battery, but chances are, the player is bricked.
try updating the firmware.

Considering the frozen problem
Creative gives this information when the player freezes, in the knowledgebase solutions:
>>>>>
  1. Gently push the end of a thin object (such as a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole.
The reset button for your player is located at the bottom of the player, to the right of the dock connector port.
  2. Refer to the article below to access the recovery mode and perform a Clean Up.

SID 64128: Accessing the Recovery/Rescue Mode of your Player

    Note:
    1. Clean Up scans a player's hard disk/memory card and removes any invalid links from the music library. It does not affect the working music files at all. It is recommended that you perform "Clean Up" first before formatting or reloading the player's firmware.
    2. It is advisable for you to clean up your player regularly if you are frequently transferring files from you computer to your player or vice versa.

Blank Screen

You tried getting to recovery mode by pushing the play and power buttons at the same time while pressing a pin into the tiny reset hole on the bottom of the player? If not, do that and run "clean-up". It might be able to fix the software for you.

Zen frozen on one screen even after I've restarted it.

hard drive sounds bad. has it been dropped?
try to do a cleanup
  1. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off.
2. Connect the power supply to the player.
3. Hold down the Play/Pause button while inserting a paper clip into the Reset hole
underneath your player, beside the data/power connector. Keep on holding the
Play/Pause button while you release the Reset button. The Rescue Mode screen will
then appear.
4. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button

It will display the following options.
Clean Up Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All) Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.

Frozen again

There are many causes for the freezes all of which I have found so far to be operator error. Except for the firmware upgrade. Follow all manufacturers instructions for resets and reinstalls (read throughly before proceeding) and all will be well again. We have 2 sleek photos I found the users to main the problem (2-teenages). Corrupt files (pics & audio)cause freezes. Find them and delete them. Regular cleanup from the utilities menu)helps alot these units are mini-computers but they do not multitask well- cant push them.

Been frozen for about a week

You have to hit the reset button. You stick the end of a small paperclip or even the wire part from those garbage bag twist-ties into the reset button which is the hole on the bottom of the player. As you push the paperclip into hole you must hold down the PLAY button. This should put it into the Recovery screen or else it will just say "Rebuilding Library". If it goes into the Recovery screen you select CLEANUP and then YES. After it goes through cleanup which can take forever then it will will usually reboot on its own or if it goes back to recovery screen hit REBOOT after you have done CLEANUP.

Zen sleek frozen after trying to delete songs

Why does technology make you work for what you already paid good money for? Have you tried going into Recovery Mode? You do this by holding down the Play/Pause button while triggering the Reset button. Once there, you have four options. Try selecting Disk Cleanup and then Reboot. You might need to re-Sync a few things but it's worth a shot. Good luck.

System locking up, I can't do a thing

Try taking a toothpick, and at the bottom of your mp3 player, there is the usb insert port thing, but then there is this little hole to the right...it's the reset button. After you hit the reset button, just let it charge.
