I get the "No Disc" display when I insert a DVD movie. It varies by disc and sometimes when a disc is ejected and then insterted several times, then the disc will play, I smoke a cigarette after it plays the disc.

Would this be a lens issue or are there incompatibility issues with the newer discs and I need to get a new player? My DVP-S360 is over 5 years old.

After inserting dvd in player it reads no disc

Hi,
Unfortunately , Some DVD players cant read some DVD s and
then it gives either "loading" or " no disc"..reading on the display...

it generally happens when you want to play "A copied DVD/CD " taken from somewhere else..
Just to make sure that such DVD is ok ,you can try to run them on your laptop. If the disc itself has problem, laptop does not read either..
Just in case,quick remedy ,
pls Clean your DVD player's LASER lens .. A clean DVD player Lens ensures that your DVD disc would be read properly. Unfortunately, your DVD player's Lens accumulate as much dust and lint as the other parts of the DVD player. There are many available DVD lens cleaner kits that you can purchase and use to clean your DVD player.

YOUR DVD disc itself should be clean and finger prints free as well....
Here are three suggested DVD Lens Cleaner that should do the job of cleaning your DVD Player's lens.
Memorex Laser Lens Cleaner for DVD - This cleaner contains six soft brushes that gently remove dust, dirt and other airborne contaminants from your DVD player's lens. (Price: $6.09)
Maxell DVD-LC DVD Lens Cleaner - This DVD Lens cleaner features the "Thunderon Brush System" and include tests for audio performance including Dolby 5.1 surround sound. It also features an interactive on-screen instructions in 8 languages including system set-up. (Price: $10.81)

if this remedy does not help and if your set has still under warranty ,consult to service they may replace the LASER Reader EYE...most of the time Laser Eye malfunctions and does this..
if it is not under warranty ,never ,never have someone repaired it..go buy a new one,It will be cheaper.. ...

Won't play dvd

Hello,
If your player wont play dvd, then it means there is a problem somewhere inside the unit. Most likely the lens is weak or dirty. First try to use a lens cleaner for the player to see if it will play any disc, if it does play the dvd, then it means the lens was just dirty and needed to be cleaned.
You can also try to clean your lens, by taking the player apart and using a cotton bud to clean it up. To take the player apart, you need to get a star screwdriver, then you unplug the player, then you unscrew the screws around it, slide off the back cover, then you unscrew the hook that is above the lens that covers holds the disc in place, then you use a cotton bud to carefully clean the lens. Before you reassemble the player just screw the disc holder that is above the lens back and plug it, then try to play a disc, if it does not play a disc still, then it means the lens is weak and need to be replaced.
To replace the lens, just take out the disc tray, disconnect the flexi ribbon that connects the lens to the main board, then you disconnect the lens itself, and replace it with a new one. then you reassemble the player back together.
This time, it will play your dvd discs.
Hope this helped. Take care and good luck

The dvds are not detected - No Disc or Disc Error

Hi. These steps should help.
  1. Check the disc you're using for scratches and dirt. If the disc is damaged it won’t play properly, regardless of the DVD player’s ability to function. You can use a DVD repair device like the "Disc Doctor" to repair the DVD or purchase a new DVD.
  2. Make sure the discs you're using fit the correct format specified by your DVD player. For example, if your DVD player doesn’t support home-burned DVD-R's, then you can’t use a DVD that you made at home. You may need to upgrade to a newer model, most of which accept the latest DVD formats.
  3. Clean the laser lens with a DVD laser lens cleaning disc. DVD laser lens cleaning discs can be purchased at most electronics retailers or online. Insert the laser lens cleaning disc and follow the instructions.
  4. Insert a correctly-formatted, undamaged disc into your player. Listen to see if it begins to read the disc. If it continues to make no sound and gives you the same message, then the problem is probably that your disc is not spinning in the device.
  5. Turn the device off and unplug it. Take off the outer casing by removing the three or four screws and lifting the top piece off. This will allow you to see if anything is simply stuck or jammed. If this is the case, a simple nudge back to the correct position will fix the problem.
  6. Clean the lens while the DVD player is open. A dirty lens is most likely the cause of your no-disc error. The lens should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.
  7. Take your DVD player to have it professionally fixed only when none of these other solutions solves the problem. A professional repair technician will be able to tell you if fixing your DVD player is worth the money.

Player won't play any disc now

Time to look inside the dvd player. try readjusting the variable trimmer under the laser lens of the dvd player assembly. It is usually located under the lens assembly. try to adjust the lens at every 1 degree angle up to +/-5deg. sometimes it can be done. if not. time to change for new lens. damage lens is caused by using pirated DVDs or bad disc as the lens is trying to read the data on the cd.

PORTABLE DVD PLAYER NOT SPINNING DISCS AND SAYING NO DISC

When it is region lock it will say it on the display, if the player is not reading any disk, it is more likely a lens problem, see below:

Try first using a lens cleaner disk, like the ones here.

If that does not work, the unit must be disassembled, and lense cleaned with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:
