SOURCE: Air Conditioner works intermittently

It could be your low pressure cycle switch is going bad. Check the connection to the switch and it's is located on the A/C Accumulator. The other thing to check is the A/C relay and that is located in the glove box. There is a panel in the glove box that say's relay, there is three relays in there and one of the out side relay's out of the three is the A/C. can not remember which one it is. The middle relay is the fuel pump and the other one is the third break light. Switch the two out side relays and see if your A/C get's better. the other thing too is if the R134a is just a little low, and needs to be topped off. Good luck and hope this helps. if your going to try to recharge the A/C system your self, keep in mind not to over charge.

SOURCE: 96 gmc jimmy a/c

50psi on the low side is a little high. Sounds like the system is overcharged by about 10-15psi. Overcharging a system will cause a lack of performance just as much as undercharging with one exception, overcharging can damage the compressor. The compressor will engage with as little as 20psi although there's no 1 benchmark for all engines, 40-45psi is considered a full charge. Hope this answers your question.

The a/c on my truck only blows cold air when i spray cold water on it

I don't think the orifice is the problem
& different refrigerant won't be either

You caused a change of state by spraying
the condenser. Tells you something, but not much

Have you put gauges on the system to check pressures?
Have you leak tested the system?

That is where you start

You have a leak that has to be repaired

I'm replacing the a/c compressor, the orifice tube and the accumelator dryer. Question 1, is the accumelator dryer and the condensor the same thing? Question 2, is it necessary to use a shop vac?

CONDENSOR IS THE SMALL RADIATOR LOOKING DEVICE WITH COOLING FINS IT IS MOUNTED IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR. THE ACCUMULATOR LOOKS LIKE A CANISTER OR LOOKS LIKE A CAN.YOU NEED TO ADD 1 ONCE REFRIGERANT OIL TO CONDENSOR AND ACCUMULATOR. YOU NEED AC VACUUM PUMP. NOT SHOP VAC. THE AC VACUUM PUMP COST ABOUT $400.00 YOU CAN BUY CHEAPER ONE FOR $60.00 YOU NEED A AIR COMPRESSOR THAT OPERATE AIR TOOLS WITH.YOU NEED VACUUM PUMP TO REMOVE ALL MOISTURE OUT THE AC SYSTEM BECAUSE MOISTURE WILL FREEZE UP IN THE SYSTEM.

How do you replace an air compressor in a 99 olds alero

TAKE CAR TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.THEY HAVE TO DISCHARGE AND RECOVER THE REFRIGERANT FROM CAR STORING IT IN STORAGE RECOVER UNIT.AGAINST THE LAW TO LET OUT REFRIGERANT IN THE ATOMOSHERE CAUSING OZONE DAMAGE.WHEN REFRIGERANT IS REMOVED THIS WILL BE THE CHEAPEST WAY.FIRST GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE BUY A PACK OF O - RINGS FOR AIRCONDITIONERS SYSTEM.THEY SHOULD BE GREEN COLOR NOT BLACK ONES.THEY ARE THE UNIVERSAL O -RINGS NOT MADE FOR AIR CONDITION SYSTEM.THE REFRIGERANT WILL DESTROY AND CAUSE LEAKS.WHEN YOU BUY O - RINGS.BUY NEW ACCUMULATOR THE OLD ONE FULL OF MOISTURE.YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE EXPANSION TUBE OR ORIFICE TUBE.IT IS LOCATED AT CONDENSOR LOWER LINE FITTING.BUY 1 BOTTLE OF R- 134 REFRIGERANT OIL. THEN BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR POUR THE OIL OUT OF IT.MEASURE HOW MUCH OIL IN COMPRESSOR.OKAY TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR FIRST REMOVE DRIVE BELT.THEN SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND REMOVE WHEEL AND SPLASH SHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE.DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FROM COMPRESSOR AND REMOVE COMPRESSOR REFRIGERANT LINES.THEN REMOVE COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BOLTS 2 BOLTS AT TOP 1 OR 2 BOLTS ON BOTTOM OF COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR.SEE HOW MUCH OIL COMES OUT.SHOULD BE A OUNCE OR TWO.GM COMPRESSOR HOLDS 10 TO 8 OUNCES.BUT WE DONT KNOW HOW MUCH IN SYSTEM.WHEN YOU BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.MEASURE HOW MUCH SHIPPING OIL IT HAS BY POURING IT OUT.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE I WOULD POUR 2 OUNCE REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR. POUR 1 OUNCE OIL IN ACCUMULATOR.REPLACE ALL THE O -RINGS AT THE COMPRESSOR AND ACCUMULATOR AND THE LOWER CONDENSORS LINES WHEN REPLACING THE ORIFICE TUBE.USE NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS TO REMOVE THE ORIFICE TUBE.BESURE TO PLACE THE LONG SCREEN ON THE INSIDE.BESURE TO LUBRICATE ALL O - RINGS WITH REFRIGERANT OIL.WHEN YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER.DONT OVER TIGHTEN THE REFRIGERANT LINES WHICH WILL CUT THE O - RINGS CAUSE LEAKING. TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE THAT DOES AC WORK.LET THEM PUMP DOWN THE SYSTEM AND LEAK TEST THEN CHARGE AC SYSTEM UP.THIS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY BECAUSE IF YOU BUY A VACUUM PUMP THATS ABOUT $400.00 AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET A GOOD SET RANGE FROM $100.00 TO $300.00 DOLLARS.SEE YOUR AC COMPRESSOR $270.00 TO OVER $300.00 THAT ADDS UP.HOPE MOST THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THE HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL CAN ALSO HELP YOU IT HAS PHOTOS AND INFORMATION HOW TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR.

Where is the freeon filter for the rear ac

hi, if i am correct, this vehicle does not have a filter for the freon in the rear a/c system. the front a/c compressor produces the pressure and suction for the rear system and there is a filter/drier called an accumulator. also there is another filter called an orifice tube. both of these items are located near the passenger firewall. the accumulator is a larger aluminum cylinder which has two hoses going to it from the compressor, and the orifice tube is located inside the high pressure discharge hose assembly near the condensor(mounted in front of the radiator). but, as far as the rear a/c goes, this vehicle uses an evaporator expansion valve for the rear a/c on most models. now, if i'm wrong, and there is actually an orifice tube in the rear, you would find it inside the hose at the very rear, near the exhaust tailpipe on the passenger side. you would have to discharge the whole system to inspect. might want to take to a shop, good luck.

I need to change the ac condensor is it hard to change out what do i have to do

This will apply to most automotive A/C systems. You have to remove the accumulator, the compressor and the orifice tube (expansion valve).
Flush ALL the lines with an A/C flushing agent.
Install the correct amount of refrigerant oil into each A/C component per the manufacturers specifications.
You have to install a new accumulator, orifice tube and compressor and necessay "O" rings and seals.
Evacuate the system using a vacuum pump.
Check for any LEAKS.
Recharge the A/C system with the correct amount of freon per the manufacturers specifications.

Air will not blow cold after freon has been put in it

ymeadows: If you have properly re-charged your A/C system to the correct pressure and do not get cold air coming out of your cabins vents, then you have a clog somewhere in the A/C system. This may be caused by a dirty orifice tube or expansion valve (same part different name) or the clog could be in the evaporator or condenser. I would not continue to use your A/C until you locate the source of your problem as this may cause over-stressing of other critical A/C components. If you are mechanically inclined and familiar with how A/C systems work, I would start with replacing the orifice tube or expansion valve. These can be on the high or low side of the A/C system and varies from one make and model to another. PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS SOLUTION IF YOU FOUND THIS INFORMATION HELPFUL, THANKS,
