Bad picture TV is 4 years old. Picture suddenly became green tinted and very dark. Did magic focus. Did not help. Contrast, brightness, etc. all on 100%, but still very dark picture. Sometimes no color, just a green tint. Is this a major problem, too costly to repair???

Westinghouse sk 26h735s has been a wonderful tv. Suddenly, the picture is very dark. tried adjusting with the westinghouse remote but the contrast, brightness, etc. options don't change anything.

That is an LCD display television and they used a CCFL tube back light sytem. When you look at the picture if the WHITES appear to be orange or yellow tinted, the issue is the tubes going out. IF the color looks normal then the issue is the back light inverter getting weak. https://www.shopjimmy.com/westinghouse/sk-26h735s

Contrast really dark but seems to improve after the tv has been on several hours

Hi:
You may have a problem with the inverters in the unit, they are responsible for lighting up the back panel. Check or have checked the power supply voltage to the inverters, should be around 18-24 volts DC. Also leaky capacitors on the power supply will cause this issue as well as leaky or puffy capacitors on the inverter.

Green tint I can't seem to fix

Hopefully someone on here has a manual and can tell you exactly where the tint controls are. Also need to try adjusting the color level, turn it clear down so you have a black and white picture.
Is the picture still green over the screen with the color control
set clear down to black and white? If it does, you might
have an issue with the green gun going out or problem in the
circuitry to it.

By the way, the best way to adjust the picture settings on a
tv are to first turn the color control clear down, then adjust
brightness and contrast for best black and white picture, then
bring up the color level to where it should be and adjust the
tint for best red/green ratio.

Dark Picture

The procedure for correcting dark picture is EXTREMELY dangerous.. If you're not sure about what you're doing call a qualified technician or you could seriously hurt yourself or get killed!

Picture Dark, abnormal, Changing Color Temperature
  • Clean the Spark Gaps on each CRT PWB. Remove the Cap, clean the contacts with thin fine sand paper, blow out, reseal.
  • Remove the CRT Sockets, clean the pins on the CRT. Push the CRT socket on and off several times.
Make really sure before you sttart this process that the Tv has been unplugged for several hours and that you discharge the crt as you remove the anode. There is some extremely high voltage present for hours after the Tv has been off...
Or get a reputable shop to come out and do the procedure for you - - might just save picking yourself up of the opposite wall.

The picture on my JVC TV is too dark

On the inside of the TV, on the flyback transformer there should be two controls. Turn the one that says "screen" very slowly clockwise while looking at the pix. The pix should get brighter as you turn it up- if you go to far you will see lines in the pix or the TV may shutdown.

Dark , blurry picture

MTNESTR, My guess would be the FBT loc.TH01(flyback transformer) Hitachi p/n#BW03004 which would be far less expensive than replacing the entire deflection board... A shop could ring test the FBT to confirm the failure. I do know the FBT in this unit has an internal resistor that is prone to failure. It is in-line with the focus block and if it's open it would explain the blur and lack of screen voltage to light the crts properly. The deflection board is about $290-$350 plus shipping and a FBT is somewhere between $60 - $90 depending on the supplier. Hope this helps! Bill
