SOURCE: where do you connect the blue wire

Next time don't lose the instructions.....

Black is your answer...

If just simply hooking the blue and black together with the black from the switch/power supply does not work you need to replace the wire going to the fan with a 12/3 wire(white, black, red, ground) along with a switch, what you have now is a 12/2(white,black,ground)

Here is the following way it should be hooked up using 12/3 romex to the fan from wall switch.
White,Black, ground power supply
Make sure 12/3 is fed to the fan location.
From the power you Y off the black to the red with a piece of red wire to the switch.
Then from the switch is red wire.
Then at the fan red connects to blue, black connects to black, white to white, and ground to ground.

SOURCE: wiring problems

The only thing which goes to the house's white wire is the fan's white wire.

Both the black and blue wires from the fan (black for fan motor, blue for light kit) go to the black house wire.

Anything else could result in a fire, a melting of internal parts, or a massive electrical explosion arc. The owner's manual is very clear about how the fan is supposed to be wired, and you voided the warranty by going against it.

You may have blown a fuse or a circuit breaker, or you may have blown something within the fan, or your house may be wired in series (very unlikely) in which case you need a new separate wire run for the light kit.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

On emerson casablanca ceiling fan, there is no voltage between blue and white wires for lighting kit power.

Check blue wire to bare ground.
Then check each wire to bare ground, with switch on and off.

I am installing a light kit to a hunter Original paddle fan. The neutral -white in the fan is marked for a light kit but I cannot figure which is the black or hot wire in the fan

Here is the information given to me by a Hunter rep when I worked at the big box store.
(901) 248-2259 Technical/ Parts
or parts/ technical service (901) 248-2327
As a side note, most fans use the White and Blue wires to supply power to the light kit.
The blue generally attaches to the Black wire when installing light kits, and the
White to White.
Hope this is useful.

I am adding a light to a Hampton Bay fan. From the ceiling wiring I have a red and a green wire that are not connected. Is the red wire for the light and do I tie it in to the black wire to the fan for...

The green is a ground and the red is the hot wire for the light. One wire from the light kit is white and should be connected to the other white wire in the fan. The red wire should be the hot wire and gets connected to the black or blue (other wire) from the light kit. If you connect the two wires and the light does not come on, you need to find the other end of the red wire and make sure it is connected to a switch to give it power. The other end of the red wire is probably in the single gang box where the wall switch for the fan is located. Or you can tie the red wire for the light to the black wire for the fan and simply use the pull cord to cut on/off the light.

White wires are neutrals and must be tied together to the power lead-in white wire. The black goes to the hot interrupted by the switch. The Blue wire is the hot for the fan but is interrupted by a separate switch. If you want to use one switch then the blue goes to the same black for the motor.

We are installing a lighting fixture on our Casablanca 4944D Concentra. We can get current across the various wires, but can not get the light to turn on. The colors of the wires are blue, black, red,...

On ceiling fans, the blue wire is designated for the accessory light kit. If you are using the Casablanca kit, it should be wired with a matching plug that just, well, plugs into the fan.

If you are adding another brand of light kit, you only need to connect the blue wire (hot/common) to the black wire of the light being attached, and the white (neutral) to the white wire of the light being attached.

Your fan will not have a pull chain/switch for the light attachment, as that is normally supplied pre-wired and installed in the light accessory.

If in doubt about about the wiring, contact Casablanca for a manual showing what light kits are acceptable for adding onto your particular fan model.

Also, please turn off the power before connecting the light kit to the fan.

Hope that helps and best regards!
