Having never smelled a skunk... bad smells in the heating/ventilation/air conditioning system are usually biological. You may have mould growing in there or maybe a small creature crawled in and died. Seriously! There are aerosol cans of air conditioning cleaner you can buy for the mould. If that doesn't solve it, first check the air intakes, there will be things like pollen or dust filters that need to be replaced. Lastly you may have to take apart the dash to inspect the ducts.
This term is often used to refer to spoiled beer; however
this is not the case. Beer becomes
skunked when it is unintentionally exposed to a lot of light (specifically UV
radiation). Basically what happens is
the light causes the hops to break down with other chemicals ultimately
creating a substance which produces a very strong and pungent sulfur smell -
thus giving it the 'skunked' term.
It is this reason why most bottled beers are manufactured in
brown bottles. The beers made in either
clear or green bottles are able to avoid skunking by using a hop substitute,
known as a tetra-hop.
