Pulsating Picture My 51swx20b is 3 years old. The picture is pulsating on the left and right of the screen. If you turn on the convergence screen, you can see the convergence lines moving in and out, sometimes slowly and other times rapidly. The colors are aligned on the grid. Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin

Your set might have loose conections ,a few places to check is the horizontal driver transformer and the convergence IC's,they develop loose conections and need to be resoldered,if you are familiar with tv service and soldering is something you could do ,some conectors might get disconected when you flip the board,but if you are not too familiar I would suggest you call for assistance from a servicer.Besides the places I mentioned I am sure the set has other overheated places that need resoldered as well.Let Us know how it goes.

You have a convergence problem.On this model you can change the convergence amp board which has the convergence IC's on it making it an easy repair.

My tv goes blank with sound only.

tough call. from your decription it could be the tubes the pulsating. but if i had it in the shop i wwould first look at the convergence curcuit. the fact that the on screen display come up in colors inidcates convergence problems. you might have multiple component falure there. as for cost it could be diddicult to say. average repairs like this barring piture tube problem at my shop run 200 labor and about 150 parts. this is just for convergence cuircit rpair

Pulsating screen.

Due to the flourescent lights that are used in this product, i would suggest trying to return the product for a new one, as one or maybe a few of the bulbs may have busted or become loose due to the impact caused by the fall.

Tv on no picture no sound tv making a pulsating humming noise.

Hi phalbeis, Unfortunately it looks like the power supply has failed, since the unit is new I would check into the return policy of the store you bought it from, if your lucky you can just exchange it. If not it will have to be shipped back to the manufacturer.which can be a hassle, you may have to pay the shipping to the repair facility.

you need to change the CONVERGENCE ICs , if you cant do it then it needs to be serviced by a HITACHI authorize service shop , hope this helps AJ

Solution:

Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

Try to adjust the convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from www.TvRepairKits.com. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Pulsating power LED. No picture. No sound

Either the main smoothing capacitor or the voltage regulator are faulty. You may find that the power LED will stay on after pulsating for several minutes, at which time you can switch the TV on.
