Question about Canon Elura 85 DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

Canon Elura 85 video skips during playback

Camera is about 5 years old. I've taken very good care of it as I've only used it to record 4 weddings and 1 birthday celebration. About every 3-4 seconds during playback, there is a noticeable skip in the video and audio. This makes uploading any video footage to my pc for editing impossible. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Canon DC95

Hi all you need to do is have it powering with the a/c adapter plugged in and into the wall it will then finalize. It wont do it if you do not have power going to it. You would think they would put this in the instructions.

SOURCE: Hi, I'm trying to find

The DV Camcorder is equipped with a DV port which permits both downloading as well as uploading of video and still images (stored on the video tape only) to a computer using an IEEE-1394 (firewire) interface. The ZR45MC, ZR50MC, ZR65MC, ZR70MC, Elura 40MC, Optura 200MC, and GL2 also have a USB port on the camcorder for downloading still images only from the MMC/SD card

SOURCE: My canon hv20 hdv camcorder is now not displaying

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

I have a Canon Elura 85 camcorder, and a "remove the cassette" message came up. But the tape wont eject. What should I do?

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated. This will require disassembling the camera to repair the tape mechanism and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

I want to transfer my DVD's taken with a DC100 Canon video camera to computer files to share on Facebook & other social networking sites. But I have no idea how to get them from DVD to computer file...

please make sure to finalize the disc before inserting it to the computer.

steps:

1.go to media browser(its the mode where you playback recorded videos)
2.press menu button
3.pres right directional button
4.press down directional button and look for the "finalize" option and press ok

note: plug the camcorder to walloutlet during the process and avoid vibrations and movements with the camcorder. it would be better if you place the camcorder on a stable surface during the process.

-wait until finalization finishes and then insert the disc to computer and then copy the videos to a folder in your computer and so that you can upload them to facebook.

How do you get videos from a cannon elura 85 onto iMovie?

Use wall power, not battery power. Set camera to Play (not PC Connect)

Open iMovie, wait a minute or so for import screen. If it does not come up, click the camcorder button.

Horizontal lines on playback screen

Someone here recommended on another post to put the lense cap on & videotape the blackness in a quiet room for 5-10 mins. I tried this as a last resort & it worked. When I played back the tape, no more skipping or gray lines. I had 4-5 SOLID gray lines with skipping video & audio in between on every tape I put in. I think the person who helped me solve this said that it was a result of the tape alignment going off. My camera is a Canon zr80 digital camcorder. (Called Canon, they had me reset it & then recommended sending it in).

Zooming problem

I have the same problem. I have no fix in rec mode but if it happens during playback; press menu and select the zoom options. You don't have to pick any but just keep the menu displayed on the screen. I do this while recording the tape to my DVD recorder and it solves the locked zoom problem. The menu display does not get recorded.
This zoom problem is a big pain. We should start a class action suit against Canon. It started within a year of ownership with mine. I bought a Panasonic recently and haven't looked back.
Panasonic doesn't have the slick Canon marketing/packaging but it is a much better machine.

Wont playback videos taken

Some common faults with most camcorders and video playback units:
Dirty heads
Failure in the head assembly
Failure in the head pre-amp section
Failure in the main video processing section
Internal system timing fault
Servo lock fault condition
uPC is hung in its operation and requires a re-set

The unit should be properly checked at a service center to determine the exact cause of failure.
