Is it possible to program an alternate remote to replace the Yamaha GX-50 OEM remote VU506200.

You could pick up a new one at this website for $40. Not sure if that is feasible.
YAMAHA GX 50 AUDIO REMOTE CONTROL SYS1 VU506200

I believe the ZA11360 remote works with Amplifiers and is not compatible with the GX-50 mini sound systems. You could try and buy a universal remote and then try and program it for the GX-50 but it is hard to find codes. There are a few Yamaha sound system codes available on the web and you could try these with the ZA11360. But these are for Yamaha CD players. Try one of 60036, 60490,61907.

The cassette player door on my Yamaha GX-500 system doesn't open fully. The motor is working, but the door only moves one-half inch. Possible/expensive to fix?

Hi. I suspect that the belt may be worn and/or the motor pulley may be contaminated with dirt and dust. This would cause the belt to slip on the pulley when under tension / load. I would recommend cleaning the open / close mechanism with an alcohol based solution and a cotton-bud / cuetip - (those things you would use to clean your ears).

Hope this is of some help to you.

ER message for CD, Sharp GX-CH150

The optics assembly is having a problem. Either it can not read the disc at all or the disc is not spinning. In any case, the unit will require service. If you can reach the lens, try cleaning it using a cotton swab and alcohol. That may resolve the problem. If not, update this. Please try to see whether or not the disc spins and report that as well.
Thanks,
Dan

Memory loss

See if you can find one of these capacitors. It's called a memory retention capacitor they are normally squashed looking things. Voltage ratings around 6 volts.
If you do replace it.
