If you get a blue screen at turn on and a short time later it shuts off--power supply is ok--set is shutting down as no signal detected to protect the screen.

If using a box first unplug it and wait and plug back--let box try to reboot itself.

Also as a test hook a DVD etc to a rear set of audio/video inputs and go to that input quickly when the set comes on (have DVD connected and on---see if set works that way.

No signal either a problem with the set or the signal source (box?).

SOURCE: TV Had Burning Smell and Now Won't Power On

It is a real possibility that the power board has failed.

It is fairly easy and safe to remove it and inspect it and the burnt component will be easy to find.

Make sure you place the TV on a flat surface screen down where it is well supported. Do not put anything on the table under the set if there is a chance it will come in contact with the screen. Allowing the weight of the set to rest directly on the screen presents a real risk that the screen will break. Lying flat on a table, the set will rest on the frame around the screen which should be safe.

Do not apply power to the set with the back off as there is a risk of electrocution.

The board is available as a module and can be found on eBay occasionally. The part number is 1-789-496-11 and it will cost between $250 and $300 new.

I suggest you turn the repair over to a qualified service professional for the best outcome. Attempt any repairs at your own risk of creating further damage or replacing the wrong parts. The board failed for a reason. The core cause may not be the power board.

SOURCE: my sony bravia has no audio when used as cable tv

Check the connections between the cable box and the TV. If you are using scart check the connector is in squarely if using rgb or composite you need a separate audio connection using the red and white phon sockets.

SOURCE: 40" Sony Bravia has intermittent audio failure.

I have a KDL-46VL130 with the same problems. Audio on the HDMI connection turns on and off intermittently when I have it connected with my ATT Uverse rcvr. I check w/ Sony online support and they led through the standard troubleshooting process ... which I knew going in would not fix the problem. Ultimately they told me to try a new HDMI cable first, or try a different video source for the HDMI, other than my ATT U-Verse reciever and see if the problem persists. Having seen other articles on this issue, i am almost certain that is not going to fix the problem... and to think that I paid $2000 for this thing.

The picture went out on our sony bravia lcd

If the unit is less than a year old, it should still be under warranty through the rental center. The inverter has failed. This is what supplies the light behind the panel. This is a relatively common failure and is easily fixed by a service center. Call the rental center for instructions on what to do. This is not a failure than can be caused by misuse. You should not be at fault here.
