I purchased a Philips PET707 portable DVD player. It worked fine for a while, but now, when I put a disk into it, it just says

I purchased the DVD player some years ago. It worked fine for some time, then it stopped working. We took it to be repaired, and then it worked okay. But now, whenever I put a disk into it, t just says "Loading" and nothing happens. What should I do?

Replace the player, the laser pickup assembly is the problem, overtime it becomes weaker until it can no longer read the disk.

SOURCE: Polaroid portable dvd/cd player PDX

Hello
I had that problem, the problem is that where you put the disc (the black Circle) tends to get a bit loose so it moves downwards.

so the distance between the lens and the under surface of the DVD / CD is reduce, so the beam is NOT return to the lens.

The way I fix it is by pulling the black circle EXTREMELY carefully and SLOWLY while you are turning it.

Once is out, with a toothpick or a needle put a small amount of crazy glue in the inner walls of the hole that is in the center ( where the pole of the rotor goes in) this way the hole is reduce.

Wait till it dries, then gently put it back in, it will be a tight fit, IT MOST NOT GO ALL THE WAY IN!!!

By this i mean that you will see the pole of the rotor go into the hole, but it most not reach all the way, it should be below the surface. The distance between the end of the pole and the surface of the black circle should be THE THICKNESS OF THE BLACK CIRCLE.

The way to know that the distance is right, put in a CD and play some songs, then try it with a DVD.

If it reads no disc it means you inserted the disc to much, pull it out a bit, then try again.

Once it reads both CD and DVD, fill in the hole with a drop of crazy glue, this way the black disc will not move anymore.

One more thing, I do not recommend to use alcohol in the lens, 'cause some lenses are now made of polymers non resistant to abrasive, instead use a cue-tip (cottonete, little pole with cotton to clean your ear) moistened with bottle water or distiled water.

Note MOISTENED not soaked or wet.

Hope it works for you.
Best Regards
Luis.

SOURCE: does not play divx/mpeg4 files on dvd disk!!

The player plays strictly DIVX files, but not variants like XVID (which today is more common since divx became not free).
Divx is actually the same than XVID. After spending days converting my files from xvid to divx, realized that changing only the FOURCC code of the files works.
Look for a program named videoinspector. It allows to edit the fourcc for a video file. for all xvid and variants change the fourcc of the files to DIVX. The change takes a second instead hours of conversion, and movies in xvid that used not to play on this device, now will be played without problems.

SOURCE: unlock a Philips portable DVD Player Pet 741/37

It worked for my Philips PET741/37:

1. Power ON the DVD player without a DISC inside
2. Press the skip keys in this order (the keys are under the "disc menu" and "stop"): right, left, right, left, right, right, left (YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO SETUP MENU, just do this in the "blue screen".
3. It will show a menu with region, now use the arrow keys to select "region" and change to "test 0" (all regions).
4. Press OK to confirm. Enjoy

My dvd player wont charge like it should what can i do to solve this problem

If the battery is not charging properly, the battery needs to be replaced, the time intervals gets shorter between charges. Go to www.ebay.com Type: make and model and refine search to battery.

My phillips dvd player wont charge like it should

Either a bad battery or the charger--voltage can be tested coming out of the charger with a volt meter.

A lot of units come with a cheap battery and a year down the road it no longer charges--same with laptop computers for that matter.

Philips pet1030 portable DVD player makes this horribly loud noise when you put in a cd ,then either reads no disk, or shuts itself off, sometimes it works fine.

its possible the laser carriage is jammed or jamming, the only thing you can do is try pushing the carriage up and down in its slot a few times to see if this clears it
