I am trying to transfer videos from Mini DV to my laptop using a 4 pin fire wire to usb cable on a windows 7 platform. I used to be able to transfer my videon on my old laptop which had windows XP and transfer board. Is there a solution for a laptop with only usb slots please?

Pinnacle software will recognize the camera installed through a firewire cable once the camera is turned on. Windows movies software doesn't recognize DV cameras. You may be able to get capture to work if you go to Microsoft.com and download the Windows Media 9.0 Development Kit. I believe DV input is a capture option.
There has to be a 3rd party program installed to get it to recognize it.
Good luck on that.
