Booting Problem Hi There, I've Emachines with Intel Celeron 2.2 GHz. It was working fine..i've got my database on that machine..so i keep it on always..it was working fine before yesterday..when i came yesterday it was not on...and when i tried to switch it on..it shows power on...but power light on the front of CPU flickers constantly as well as num lock light,caps lock ligh and scroll lock ligh also flickers constanly...nothing get displayed on the screen..even monitor's power switch is showing on..but it doesn't boot..i can't see anything..no beep sound and nothing...please help me what can be the problem? Thanks...

Start your computer and right after the hp logo, keep pressing the F8 button until you see a large list of options.

Select

"USE LAST GOOD KNOWN CONFIGURATION"

and press enter. Let windows load and it should work just fine.

The fastest Pentium 3 that will work in your board is a Intel Pentium III 1GHz chip. Here is a link to the specs:

You could also get a Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz but it only has half the level 2 cache size so it's actually a bit slower than the Pentium III 1GHz chip.

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I was able to get as far as the Intel 845GL chipset and now i need the actual type of motherboard. Take off the cover and it should be something like S2098AGN. You can do a google search for your "Motherboard model + manual + download" and you should be OK. Hope this helps, Best Regards, -md

You can also use any other intel 775 socket processor as well. The dual cores are at the top of the list for performance that are compatible with that board, but if you're looking for a cheaper solution, I have that board with a 3GHz pentium 4 and it runs great. Here's a list of all the processors you can use.

Most likely the wires are for power, reset, and hard disk light. Touch one pair together momentarily, if your compter comes on then connect those wires to the power button. After the computer is on, connect the other two pair to the hard disk light one pair at a time until you see the light activate when the hard disk is running. Then connect the remaining pair to your reset button.
