Convergence my panasonic big screens has blue all out of wack, like watching a 3d movie. Going into the setting menu will not bring it back in alignment. from reading in fixya it sounds like the "amp" is bad. can i change that part myself? Where could I order the part? thanks pc

I just got the same TV with the same problem (except it's the red tube). I've ordered some new STK392-110's to swap in. I'm looking for the service manual so I can tweak the convergence settings once the amps are swapped out.

It does sound like the blue convergence amplifier IC,if you are familiar with soldering and unsoldering electronic components you can change it yourself,the first thing to do is identify the convergence IC's,all of the should have the same part number and start with STK--- ---,every set uses different numbers(amps).Is suggested you change all 3 of them at the same time and the average price for one is about 18.00 for the good ones.Once you know the STK number you can find them at www.partstore.com .If you are not too familiar with tv service you should seek the assistance of a servicer,sometimes you dont need to do adjustments after you replace the IC's but other times you need to get into the service menu and do some adjustments.Let Us know if you need more information.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

Screen looks 3D

Hooked up PS3 to system and when watching DVD's the right side of the picture is blurry and appears doubled, like an old 3D movie without the red and blue glasses. When watching TV everything looks fine.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

Convergence on Panasonic PT47WX42 is 3-D movie like and wavy...

you will need to replace both stk392-110 convergence ICs. You can get replacements at the following link with instructions. They also have the service manual for your set.

RGB lamps are not aligned

Solution

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

RED GREEN BLUE CONVERGENCE IS OUT.

if you have a rca hd56w66 chasis itc222 you may have the common fl231 fuse problem. I see this everday at the shop. to determine if you may have this problem. i have written a little article on this subject. Consult tips and tricks section under my profile. Going into maintence mode might have reset some settings.
