Some sets and some CABLE OR SAT BOXES also have a feature where you can adjust height or width of the picture--look carefully in both units menus to see if you have it.

SOURCE: full screen problem

These sets work best in their native mode. Your DVD player most likely cannot address the set in its native mode.

When not in the native mode, the aspect ratio has to be compromised.

You should call Viewsonic for more detailed information and if there are any offsets that you can adjust.

I have a copy of your onwer's manual and the TV might be doing the Image Position automatically on page 32.
I would try the system reset button on the back of the TV, it should be below your Cable In port.
This will do a cold system reboot and restore your TV back to factory setting. This should restore the View Mode problems.

SOURCE: I have a mitsubishi diamond

This model should use the STK-392-040 CHIPS.

The real question here is how did you get at or gain access to replace the chips?

I will make some assumptions: you did a good job soldering the new ones in, you did not use an electric screw gun to replace the screws that hold the board into the frame; if you removed the center board to get at them I need to advise you here of some common pitfalls that happen.

The more you can tell me the better I will be able to assist you.

Hello artasylum,

My favourite subject - aspect ratios and screen resolution . . .

It's only possible to have the picture fill the screen with no distortion if the transmitted picture is the same size as the screen. Your screen has a 16:9 X:Y (horizontal:vertical) aspect ratio. Therefore, if a transmitted program is also in 16:9 (wide) format you will be able to have the entire screen filled without distorting the picture. If the transmitted program is in 4:3 (narrow) format, you can either have black/grey bars at the sides or stretch it to fill the entire screen. You can stretch it without distorting it but this means both horizontal and vertical dimensions need to be stretched by the same percentage. This will result in the top and bottom of the picture being cut off.

To put it in the simplest terms, you cannot fit a square into a rectangle without stretching the square. If you want to keep a square as a square and fill a rectangle with it, then two sides of the square will not be within the boundaries of the rectangle.

This is not a fault with the equipment. There isn't a universal format setting which will fill the screen for all aspect ratios of transmitted programs without having black bars at the sides on some programs or cropping the picture at the top and bottom on others. It is a case of personal preference and you may need to adjust the format when changing from channel to channel to suit your own requirements.

The correct setting on your TV to ensure you have a full-screen picture for all programs is "STANDARD". On this setting, 16:9 pictures will fill the screen with no cropping or distortion. 4:3 pictures will also fill the screen on this setting, but will be stretched at the sides.

However, if you have set your TV to "STANDARD" and pictures are cut off at the top and bottom on some channels, this will be due to an incorrect picture format setting on your cable box. This can be further complicated if your cable box is HD as resolution also has to be taken into account.

If you have any further questions, I am more than happy to answer them. Similarly if you need help adjusting the aspect ratios or output resolution on your cable box, please let me know the brand and model number of the cable box.

I hope this explains it for you. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

Picture is expanding beyond borders. Tried the screen adjusts to no effect. Would like to be able to adjust picture back to where it should be. Is the video going bad or is it something else?

Projection TVs, depending on the age, do not have the proper resolution for digital tv signal that most have. It is a case of needing a new tv or getting what is called a scan converter to match the signal with your tv. If this has worked fine before and just happened the you are looking at an inverter board.

PICTURE TO BIG AT THE SCREEN.CAN NOT SEE THE PICTERS MARGIN AT THE SCREEN.HOW TO ADJUST(REDUCING PICTURE SIZE ON SCREEN)?

1) Power your wide-screen TV on and turn to a channel that is displayed with bars on the side. You need to leave this channel on to ensure you have properly adjusted your wide-screen TV.

2)
Find in your TVs settings where you can "stretch" the picture. Refer to your wide-screen TVs owner's manual for specific instructions. Some TVs may not refer to this adjustment as "stretch." You will be able to find all the information your looking for in the owners manual.

3) Adjust settings back to normal if you want to watch a program shown in 16:9 format. Keeping the screen "stretched" will cause programs shown in 16:9 format appear zoomed in, making the picture look really different.

JUST PURCHASED A 60 INCH DLP TELEVISION MOST TV CHANNELS ARE NOT FULL SCREEN.... WHAT STEPS DO I TAKE TO INLARGE THE PICTURE TO FIT THE 60 INCH SCREEN ?

Channels that transmit in 480 or 720 may not fill the screen. You can use the Aspect or Zoom button or feature to expand those channels to fill the screen but there may be some stretching in one direction or parts of the picture may extend beyond the edge of the TV. Some TVs have a "justified" setting that will not distort the center of the picture and just stretches the corners. Look in your manual for Picture Size, Aspect, or Zoom for details about your TV.

if you have a wide flatscreen tv it could be that the picture size is in the wrong mode. under the mode button on your tv remote should be two buttons labeled wide and zoom. try pushing these buttons to adjust the tv screen size.
