Question about Dell E171FPb 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Strange problem Ok i havem my Dell 17" TFT, but the problem is one day i left it on connected to my 360 and when i came back, no longer than 20 minutes, there where millions white lines everywhere going horizontally acroos the whole screen of varying thickness, and the rest of the background was un readable but you can still see some movement if you look carefully. i know its nothing wrong with the cable because i took it out and the no signal box turned into a gray vertical rectangle which movede a little bit every three seconds. i remeber this happening a few months ago but i think it fixed itself. any help would be great appreciated! thnx in advance

Unplug the monitor from the vga , does the osd test come up ,
if not then the circuit is the issue,
if it does then you may have the refresh set too high.

The monitor went dark, seems to have no power.

Totally darken the room your computer is in, and see if you can see a very-dim image on your computer.
If so, it could be the "inverter" part inside the LCD that has failed (about a $20 part, but will take a technician about $50 to $75 to disassemble/replace/reassemble/test).

Try connecting the monitor to a different computer, to see if the monitor is OK.

Dell E173FPc 17" TFT when turned on goes black

Hi Gaz,

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?

Dell E173FPb 17" TFT LCD Flatpanel

Video cards that can handle two monitors at the same time have cables with two plugs on the monitor end.

If your video cable has two plugs on the monitor end, try the other plug.

Dell 1703 FPi 17" TFT LCD Flat Panel

First there is a seprate snap frame around screen itself, there about four location on snap frame , 2 on each side ,use flat screw driver to seperate frame, there in slots like, there might be 2 on the top also, then go for screws in back, remove button panel from front side and remove flat wire connections to the board ,they pull out of slot on board , be careful putting them back in ,take your time they will go back in by pushing on the stiff part, about a 1/8 or so from the end to go in. of the connection,go for the VGA connection ,you will remve screws to seperate screen it self to get to the connection, it just pulls out of the socket on the board, hope this helps

you have snap frame around the screen itself use flat screw driver fine edge, theres about four locations that snap into slots work them away and remove frame, then remove screws on back will seperate ,you will have to remove monitor button panel board to, once inside, four screws around screen itself once in side, this will lead you to power connection inside main screen frame, the board and the connections
