I posted earlier about the flickering on dark screens on my 42H81.
As an update, I had a repairman come and look at the TV and he said it needs a new blue CRT. He said it will cost about $700 to fix. I am obviously not happy with this and now I don't know what to do. Does it sound like that could be the problem?
The set is 4 years old, should I pay to have it fixed or just buy a new TV? I need some advice please.

Re: Update to flickering screen on Toshiba 42H81
How did the repairman prove the blue CRT is bad ? Did he cover
the CRT leaving a good red & green video with no flickering or did
he cover the red & green and observe the flickering in blue...?
Did he discuss the hyper module with you ?.........T.

Since the problem initially would correct itself, it suggests a poor connection somewhere that "heat" would resolve. If you can solder, try resoldering any joints that appear to be grainy or have rings. Please note that these sets will retain high voltages that can be dangerous even when unplugged. If the resoldering fails to resolve the problem, let us know and we'll look further.
The model number 42pw33p is not a valid Toshiba model number. However, 42H81 is a valid number. The listing below is for model 42H81 ONLY! Double check you number before purchasing.
There are 3 screens that make up the screen assembly The inner screen is the Fresnal Screen. The middle screen is the Lenticular Screen and the outer screen is the Protective Screen. Please click on the links below to purchase these items.
i had a similar trouble not long ago.. it was the digital conv. board .... it'S was rather expensive at about 345$ canadian w/o the job...
it's your call, but my last customer didnt want to shell out the money for this kind of tv..... sorry fir the bad news
The moving might have created a loose conection, the sets age tell me there are possible other overheated areas that need to be resoldered to prevent other symptoms,If you are familiar with tv service you can check the conections in the output transformer area,he is responsible for generating the high voltage that lights up the 3 picture tubes, before the Hight volatege gets to the pix tubes there is a High volage distribution box that separetes the voltage for each tube, check it and make sure is not degraded, you need to be very careful when dealing with these parts, there is a lot of volatge in that areas,If you are not familiar with tv service be safe and call for assistance froma servicer.
