Dantz software? After installing my Western Digital 160 GB external hard drive, I saw that two (2) new programs were listed under "All Programs": Retrospect 6.5 and "Format MS PRO". Neither Western Digital nor Microsoft knows anything about the latter program. I need to know if this "MS PRO" software came from Dantz. It does *not* appear under "Add/Remove Programs" whereas Retrospect does. When I click on the "Format MS PRO," a small window opens, the title bar of which reads "FormatPro: Format Application for MS PRO". Under that is a block for drive name; however, my only choice is "NONE". No volume label, etc. I can choose "Format" or "Exit." Until I *know* what's going on with this program, I'm doing nothing. (Retrospect seems to be running just fine without my doing anything with this "Format" program.) Is this a legitimate Dantz program? Thanks for whatever help you can lend. happy31

I saw the icon properties and the icon points to the folder "C:\Archivos de programa\WDC\" (program files folder in english OS) inside there are icon files that correspond to each type of memory card in existence for the PC and also inside two executables, some icon selection utility and the FormatPro.exe.

I think the MS PRO portion is for a card reader for formating a memory stick if you have one, if not don't worry.

Windows7 wont read wd1600 caviar as a external drive ???

Did you install the western digital drive softare? There should have been a disk with the drive, which you run when you have installed the drive. It tells the computer there is a new hdd in town. If you don't have the disk, google Western Digital, find their website, and search for HDD driver software, with the model number of your drive. You should be able to download the drivers to your computer, and install them that way.

What soflware i need to use my western digital?

All software should have been provided on the drive itself. You should be able to connect the drive to your computer and immediately be able to access the drive contents.

Once you have opened the drive on your computer, there will be listed various programs to install to use your drive for backups and other purposes.

Download a program called discovery from WD, it is free. When installed, plug in the drive and run the discovery program. Your drive should work properly. Please let me know how it works for you.

All programs were read as shortcuts

You cannot simply drag and drop icons onto your Hard Drive. In order for programs to run off the hard-drive, you must have them installed to the drive.
Whenever you install a program and it asks where you would like the installed files to be placed, simply choose to have them installed on your external hard drive which is most likely name E:\ or F:\

I want to completely remove all of the WD software.

You should simply be able to go into your control panel and then head to add/remove programs. Look for anything listed as WD or Western Digital and remove it. Do not worry about accidentally removing any drivers for your drive to operation. A USB drive is a simple device that any OS can automatically install and use.

Installing WD 500 GB back-up hard disk

Mansour,
Western Digital packs software with their external drives. If you want to use their backup software you'll need to install it. If not just click on your 'computer' icon and if it shows up it has been installed and is ready for you to use.

I need to download the file ARCSOFT for a WESTERN DIGITAL external hard drive. Is this possible

You are referring to a software which was preloaded on your hard drive and it appears you lost this program. Western Digital provides on their website a few tools, but not the preloaded programs on your drive (except for the backup program tools intially installed.

I reccomend calling Western Digital and ask them how to obtain this software.

you can store, or load anything on it, when you install programs you can select that drive so you don't use up your internal, causing it to run slow.
