Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-34HS420 34" TV
When watching sporting events (particularly football) in high definition (to a lesser degree on regular channels)any part of the on-screen image that is white flickers and shimmers. These flickering white images usually include sidelines, foul lines, white uniforms, etc. It seems that the purer the white color, the more the image flickers/shimmers. I lowered the brightness level but it does not appear to have made much of a difference. Is there any other adjustments I should try or should I take it in for repair? I purchased the set in November 2005.
I think the solution to your problem is adjustment, not of the brightness but either the `contrast' which is probably too high, or the `sharpening' if your set has this function. Too much sharpness will cause a shimmering effect, especially where you see an edge between colours.(due to ringing at a very high video frequency). Too much contrast can start to turn the video signal upside down, causing noise on the peak white in the picture. Another cause is if the RF signal into the aerial socket is too large, This can be corrected by an attenuator, costing about £2. 6dB or 10dB can be tried.

Definatly has a problem it sounds like my freind. Could be a problem with the abl circuit, the picture tube or a voltage regulation problem. Good Luck PS Please dont forget to rate this thread.

SOURCE: Screen flickers upon power up
Looks like your picture tube is dying, or there is a bust capacitor(s) inside...I'd recommend taking it to a service shop to get it repaired.
