Question about Emerson EWR20V4 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Unit will not start or load disc

First the power light goes out after 2 seconds but unit is still on. Second, on screen you see the disc loading bar. When it gets to about 90% the unit cuts off. Third, when you press the disc load button, the tray comes out half way at the most and then goes back in. Fourth, the unit will not laod a VHS tape at all. Fifth, with unit "off", the fan comes on from time to time randomly (30 to 120 minutes between start-ups) 1. tried cutting all power , wait 30 min. , then reconnect. no good 2. tried putting in firmware disc that came with uint. no good 3. tried funai web site. no good before this crash, the unit had started to not want to load disc. had to load at times twice before it would read the disc. Please help.

Try opening up unit and using canned air and blow it out - sometimes simple dirt causes things like this While inside glance and see if you don't have some old tape or bits of labels that have come off and are anywhere inside that might be hanging the various working areas. Try using cd cleaning disk and vhs cleaning tape Without seeing this not sure what is causing it but may be something simple like the dust or pieces of label causing problems or the little rubber "tires" and other rubber components having gotten stretched out and slipping.

Toshiba REGZA won't play DVD. Shows "disc loading" then goes to wide screen mode, but then ejects the disc. Whats up?

Sounds like the laser pickup unit to the DVD player is faulty. Contact any service technician to replace it. The disc mechanism should be taken out of it to replace this part.

Possible that the mains program controller unit is faulty. It is not ideal to buy a second haand one unless there is warranty as you could end up with a unreasonable bill. Check the main power to the prgram controller unit.

When loading a dvd it displays, "NO DISK". Is it

Hello
There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.

Rise of the lycans won't play

This will be a firmware issue with the unit if this is the only disc that wont playback. If the unit already has the latest firwmare installed (this can be checked by connecting a LAN cable to the back of your unit and accessing the menu) you will need to wait for the next firmware update to be released to solve the issue.

I would advise contacting Samsung where you are residing to adivse them of the issue.

CANNOT OPEN PLAYER

To open the drawer, unplug the unit while the power is on (so that the drawer doesn't try to open on its own). Keeping the unit flat on a table, look underneath and find the small hole where you can turn the loading gear. Rotate it until the unit opens, using a standard flat screwdriver. The loading gear is a white plastic part with a slot in it. You should be able to see it rotate if you move the drawer by hand.

After manually removing the disc, turn the gear with your screwdriver until the drawer is all the way in, The gear should be able to be turned for three or four more turns when the drawer stops loading. If it doesn't, turn it a bit further unit it "pops" past one more gear notch. It should then turn freely for a few more turns, at this point you should stop. Do not force it once it stops the second time. This is the "Disc Loaded" position.

Power the unit back up and see if it loads a disc and plays correctly.

Upside down dvd inserted

FYI - This might damage the unit, but if you really need to get that DVD out then you can try this at your own risk!

Try unpluging the unit, then plug it back in and press the power button and a split second later press the eject button. This all needs to be done quickly otherwise the unit will try to load the disc.

Or

You can try letting the unit load the DVD. When the unit says "Please eject disc. Playback feature may not be avalible on this disc," press the eject button.

PS2 not staying on

It's either a faulty power-pack (the boxy thing that is between the unit and the wall) or it's in the unit itself. If you know someone else who has one see if you can borrow their power-pack and try your unit on it. If the problem persists with the other AC unit then it is on the motherboard and will be likely unrepairable.
