I interrupted the firmware update and now the printer is locked up. What should I do?

1. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on.
2. If the error message returns, turn the printer off.
3. Perform a cold reset.
   1. Turn the printer on.
   2. Watch the control panel.
   3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
   4. Continue holding the green (Select) button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
   5. Release the check button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
   6. Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET.
   7. Press (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence. NOTE: If this message persists, you will need to contact an HP-authorized support provider.

1. Switch on the HP Officejet 6700 series printer and wait until the printer is READY. [The Power light should be on]
2. Double click on OJ6700_R1435A.exe to launch the HP Printer Update utility. A list of OfficeJet 6700 Premium series printers detected will be displayed on the screen.
   
   Note: If the Wired network printer you wish to upgrade is not displayed in the detected printer list, click on the Refresh button to scan for printers connected via the wired network.
3. Click on the checkboxes on the left to select single or multiple OfficeJet 6700 series printers you wish to upgrade.
4. Click on the Update button to start the firmware flashing process.
5. Message showing "The selected printer has been updated successfully" will be displayed. Firmware flashing will begin.
   
   CAUTION! Do not interrupt the printer during the upgrade process. Printer may be damaged if power is interrupted during the firmware upgrade process.
6. When the printer has successfully completed the flashing process, it will automatically print out a Self Test Diagnostic Page, that will show the new firmware version.
7. Click on the Done button to close the HP Printer Update utility.

Description 49 errors are generally communication errors or file related issues and can usually be resolved by following the steps below:
Action Turn the printer off, and then turn it on again.
If the 49 error returns turn the power off, unplug the power cable, disconnect all network cables, and remove the HP Jetdirect card (or any third-party devices), if installed.
Wait at least 30 seconds before plugging the printer back in directly to a wall outlet. Do not plug the printer into a power strip or a surge protector.
Turn the printer on. If the 49 error returns, turn the power off, and then unplug the printer. Remove the formatter board.
Check that the parallel I/O board is firmly installed on the formatter board.
Check for any non-HP memory DIMMs. If any extra memory is installed, remove it.
Reconnect the power cord, and turn the power on.
If the 49 error returns, perform a cold reset.
Turn the printer on.
Watch the control panel.
When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.

Firmware Update Notes:

1. The Firmware Update Utility uses the USB connection to the printer.

Never ever touch the printer while upgrading the firmware.
You now need to replace the formatter

• DO NOT power cycle the printer or the PC during this process or the printer may become unstable and or unusable without further attention from HP . The firmware update can take up to 5 minutes to complete. Please be patient.
• During the printer firmware update, the liquid crystal display (LCD) on the printer control panel will display "Printing Document" and will change to "Erasing". After a short while, the LCD display will change to "Programming". After a short while, the LCD will display "complete : )" and the "Ready" LED on the printer will be flashing. The printer will automatically power cycle to reboot and will make noises similar to power on.

It seems that none of the printer's sensor is faulty, in fact, the printer has a faulty firmware on the formatter.

Your printer may need replacement of the formatter board, however, please try the following before swapping the formatter.

HP LaserJet P2015 Printer Series - Paper Jam Light Solid ISSUE: The HP LaserJet P2015 may come up with Paper Jam Light solid and would show the same light pattern even if the printer is power cycled.
SOLUTION: The Light pattern is as shown in the diagram below.

Perform the following tasks in the order listed.
1. Reset the printer using the Super NVRAM initialization. The procedure is
a. Turn off the printer
b. Press and hold the GO button
c. Turn on the printer and continue to hold the Go button for at least 50 seconds. During this process the Attention, Ready and Go light turns on. Then the Attention and Ready light turns off, leaving just the Go light illuminated.
d. Release the Go button. The Go, Attention and Ready lights turn on.
e. Press and hold the Go button. All lights turn off. During the next three seconds, the Go, Ready and Attention lights turn on in that order, one per second.
f. Release the Go button to perform the initialization. The control panel lights begin cycling from front to back. After the Super NVRAM initialization process is complete, the printer returns to the ready state.
2.Unplug the power cord when the printer is on and leave it unplugged for 10 Seconds.
3. Turn the printer back on.
If the above steps resolve the issue, then print a configuration page and check the firmware version and the formatter board no.,
If the firmware version is below: 20080312, then your printer needs to upgrade the firmware, however the firmware can be upgraded only onl those models whole formatter board's third number from left is 0, 1 or 2, eg: JK0xxxx

If the 3rd number from left of the formatter board no is anything other than 0, 1, 2, then firmware cannot be flashed.
