Tightening chain I have a 16" makita electric chain saw and I am having a problem getting the chain to tighten to where I would like to have it.It has an oval type piece on the saw where the bar sits and I am wondering if that it where it has to stay to slide to tighten the chain.

With the electric makita you should make sure the bar is sitting on that oval slide piece on the saw. they should fit together so that the bar will sit flush against the clutch plate and saw. attach the cover with the nut and tighten just enough to hold the cover on. then turn the screw on the nose of the saw, next to the bar, and then tighten the nut the rest of the way. if there's slipping or the chain wont tighten you should inspect the bar to make sure it is sitting flush against the saw.

Hi cdefraia,
My name is Dennis and I don't feel qualified to give you a positive answer because I have never owned an electric chain saw. Your request for assistance keeps showing up at my home site because I answer questions about gas chainsaws. I think your guess is reasonable to try and see if the bar stays tightened, remember that with use, wear will loosen the chain if the bar moves or not.
Glad to be of assistance sorry I havent responded sooner I thought someone else would by now.
I don't feel comfortable asking you to rate this solution but I can learn from your rating. Thanks
Dennis

Oil no longer lubricates the chain on saw groove and oil hole are clear

Sometimes saw dust and shavings block the oil port and track strip down the bar and chain there maybe a cover over the oil port remove this and clean carefully replace all remember to clean the bar put the chain on do not over tighten run the saw if there is no oil you may have damage to the oil pump this can happen if the saw was used with no oil or a blocked oil way some of the pumps will overheat causing damage hope this helps good luck

How do I tighten chain after removing the cover

All the saws I use that do not need the cover removed to tighten the chain. If the tightening parts are in the cover you can't adjust the tension with the cover off Other saws the pin is on the saw side To tighten the chain there is a pin that fits into a hole on the bar. Turn the adjusting device to move the bar forward to tighten the chain. If you get it too tight it will not move.

Chain keeps coming off my new 16" Makita chainsaw. Any suggestions?

Make sure that your chain is properly tightened and that the bar does not have any dents or dings in guide groove.I like to have my chains tightened to where you can pull them up at the mid-point of the bar about enough to fit the thickness of a nickle in between it and the bar.Do this when saw and chain are at operating temperature. If nothing else helps try a new chain if you have reached the end of tensioning adjustments. Thank you.

Chainsaw chain will not tighten on the guide bar

The two nuts on the bolts for the chain bar, need to be loosened.

Then the tension screw is tightened by turning it Clockwise. (To the Right)

If the chain doesn't tighten,

1.Insure that the nuts are loose enough, so that the chain bar may slide.

2.Insure that the tension adjusting screw does not have stripped threads, nor the threaded part of the case it screws through.

Replacing Remington Electric chain saw blade

Where the bar meets the body of the saw there is an adjustment lug that will either push the bar outward tightening the chain or may be retracted allowing slack in the chain. When backed off (loosened) sufficiently, the chain may be removed for replacement. In order to use this feature, however, there are two bolts that secure the bar to the body that must be loosened prior to any adjustment and tightened bach up after making adjustments to the chain. The above will be enough to remove and replae the chain. If you are taking off the bar (that the chain runs on), you will need to remove the two bolts that were just loosened for the chain adjustment (above).

Unable to tighten chain .. too droopy.

There are usually two 7/16" nuts on the side of the chain saw. Loosen those a little first, then turn the screw to tighten the chain - not too tight or you'll stretch out the chain when you use it. Don't forget to re-tighten the two nuts before using the chainsaw.

Makita 5012B chain cannot be tightened

some chainsaws have different knotches where the bar locks onto the saw. loosen the nuts and see if you can move the bar.
