    I tried over and over again, took the power of the recorder and back again, tried new discs, tried my own made discs, tried discs I bought in different shops, etc.

Every disc reads no disc in the left recording tray

Hi,
I had a similar problem with my Yamaha DVD player which just kept displaying "reading, reading and reading"- eject-no disc or disc error. I took it into be repaired and was told it needed a new optical lense-cost $120.00 plus fitting.I was told not viable to fix. Not convinced I had a look on the internet and a suggestion given was to buy a can of Air Spray from **** Smith,$14.00 later and blowing the proverbial out of the inside of the unit-Bingo it works for about an hour and then, away we go again-reading reading reading - eject-no disc. Back to the internet and i found a DVD technician who advised the more often than not the problem is a dirty optical lense, and he has saved 100's from the grave by the following method. The most effective way to clean it is with a cotton wool bud soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol and give it a good rub without damaging it. I got the Isopropyl alcohol for $12.00 a 250 ml bottle from the local chemist and did what was suggested. IT WORKED and is still going- not sure for how long but the bonus is I can use the remainder for rubbing down my tired old body, as after shave or a refresher, in addition to fixing DVD's so not all is lost. It's worth a try considering I was going to throw the Yamaha away. Thanks to the internet and the good people who share their knowledge I am happy again.
Hopefully it will work for you. If not, don't forget the other uses for the alcohol.

Recording trouble

Hi again,

I understand. Must be a glitch somewhere. Anyways, I already posted possible solutions here your original posting/problem. They were:
1. Power on the Philips FW-R7, leave the left tray empty and closed. Open the tray and put in a recorded CD (not a CDR but a regular CD from your music collection), close the right tray. Wait a couple of seconds as the FW-R7 reads the CD. Now open the tray, remove the music CD and insert your CDR. The FW-R7 should read the CDR without the error message and record to the CDR from any source. Let me know if this works for you;
2. laser cleaning or realignment (would need a service center);
3. try using lower then 40X blank CDs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Cdr s1000 help

Hi Rick

The unit has stopped reading discs. I suggest taking the lid off and cleaning the laser lens with a cotton bud with a little Windex , then give it a gentle polish to be sure no residue smearing is left. If that does not fix it, check to see what actually happens when you load a disc. Does the transport fully engage and clamp the disc correct into the chucking assembly. Let me know how you got on:)

regards
Graeme

Wrong disc

Some audio cd's work better than others. I have experienced some problems with the Maxell brand so I switched brands. It can be quirky. Sometimes you get a bad lot of discs. I have had no problems since that bad lot of discs.

Problem with Sony RCD-W1 CD recorder

Are you copying a disc you have previously recorded? SCMS will prevent this.

'No disc'on the CDR deck usually means the laser is faulty.Can you hear it spin the disc? When you open the tray has the disc been rotated? The sony's laser is usually reliable. Sony US may have a fixed price repair or you can have a look yourself. I have the service manual should you need it.

You can try other brands of audio cdr but it sounds like your laser is on it's way out. Some find cdrw's still work after cdr's have stopped being recognised.
