Always keep electronics turned off when cleaning and read owners manual for proper cleaning. lightly damp and very soft(silky is what i use) microfiber towel is as abrasive as an lcd display should ever see.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.

Hi Lizzette,
I am afraid your problem is a little technical. Well if you know something about lcd tv technicals, the problem seems to be the T Con board and/or its connectors. Check the ribbon cables and connectors, clean them properly and and start the tv.If it is not possible or it does not work, please consult someone qualified to handle your set. Good luck.

I have an older Pioneer rear projection TV that has never been cleaned, model SD-P50A5-K. Can you give me the basic cleaning instructions and the do nots for this TV.

Unplug the TV for safety - even unplugged, there is enough energy stored in the electronics to be very dangerous.
The bottom speaker grill snaps straight off. There are a row of screws under the screen around the screen bezel that must be removed. The bottom of the screen will become loose and the whole screen assembly slides up, like opening a window (there is a bracket under the bezel at the top of the screen that the bezel slides off of.) My screen took a lot of effort to disengage the top bracket - careful not to break anything!!!

Once the screen is off, put it safely aside. There is a mirror in the back that can be cleaned with a damp cloth (not dripping wet!). Remove a little dust at a time and keep washing the cloth out between cleanings. Be very gentle. If you push on the mirror it could break If its never been cleaned there is sure to be a lot of crud.

Below the mirror are three colored lenses. CAREFULLY use a clean lightly damp cloth to wipe each one. Don't mess with any of the adjustment screws and levers on the lenses.

Before putting the screen back on the TV, carefully clean it with a damp cloth too. Slide the screen back over the top bracket, put the screws back in, and pop the speaker grill back on.

Its a good idea to readjust you convergence too.

When I cleaned my set, I was amazed at how bright and sharp the picture was!

Hello; I am John at J. D. Electronics, Poland Maine. This problem is very likely caused by a defective LCD panel. This part is very expensive! Aprox $ 1000.00 from Sanyo . Obviously, that is more than the set sold for.

My rear projection TV has color spots in the picture, most noticeable on light color picture

What is the make and model of TV. If it is a Panasonic that has different colored spots such as pink, blue etc. Then you need t6o contact Panasonic as this is a memory reset that they have to perform on the LCD driver board. Other brands of LCD projection sets that have spots that appear all over the screen mostly on white back rounds are almost always dust that has settled on the LCD panels. This requires a technician to clean the LCD panels if possible.

Large yellow spot in center of tv screen

Sorry, but there is no cheap method of repair for this unless it is in warranty.

This TV will require replacement of the LCD Prism unit.

This Prism blocks and allows colors so that the 3 LCD images may be mixed to produce the final image you see on the screen. When this becomes damaged or defective, it leaks colors (light). This Color Leakage apears as spots on the screens.

Where you see the spots is where the specific spot on the prism that is leaking light, the specific color that is leaking also.

This parts cost alone is normally $500 to $1000 dollars but is usually replaced under warranty.

Good luck.....

This problem was probably there before, but you only noticed with the new "Brighter" bulb.

Turn down the Brightness and it will not be as noticeable. I am sure you only see this with bright images.....like white backgrounds and such

Good luck.....

TV issue

There are many causes for spots on top of an LCD rear projection tv, you are probably in the first two cases, both require part replacements and repair job.

If the spots are faint blue, green or pink shadows, then it can be a problem with the anti polarization panel placed on top of the LCD.

Similar spots (colored shadows) may be caused by a problem with the light engine, in that case the fix will be expensive.

If the spots are bright lights, like an aura, that is a problem with the color wheel.

Problems on the light tunnel can cause static gray shadows.

If the spots are static dark stains than that is lcd liquid, the LCD panel must be replaced.

Vertical line

Sorry, you have a defective LCD panel. If your TV is still under warranty, contact Sharp to get the TV exchanged. Otherwise, LCD panels cost more than the TV is worth.
