I generated the problem of a Toshiba RD-XS34SU/C by clicking SETUP then selecting Operational settings = DR 2. When I did this the remote would no longer do anything.
In the Toshiba HDD/DVD VIDEO RECORDER RD-XS34SU/C OWNER'S MANUAL INSTALLATION GUIDE page 46, 47 the indication is that the remote and DVDR are set to different codes.
If you want to set the remote to IR code DR 2 hold down the EASY NAV button while pressing the 2 button. This sets the control IR code to DR 2.
Answering my own question,Switch on recorder manually then hold down SETUP KEY and No 2 key at the same time.As this is a common fault with this recorder would advise taking note of this solution.
I had the same problem. On my remote, there is a green button with a black star above it. I pressed this button along with the #2 button and everything went back to normal.
Press EASY NAV and NUMBER 1 simultaneously. You should here a beep. Don't change the IR setting when your in the system. You will loose control of your remote..

Check pages 44 and 45 of the installation guide (not the owner's manual.) It will tell you how to change the recorder & the remote from DR 1 to DR 2 or DR 3. To change the remote you hold the * button plus 1,2 or 3 to change the remote.
I received an attachement from the Toshiba Repair folks several months ago, when we had the same problem. To resolve it, do the following:
While pressing the Easy Navi button on the remote, press 2. The remote control mode will be set to DR 2, which is what the recorder is telling you it is set to.
We encountered this problem for the first time, for no apparent reason. It happened again today, after the operator dropped the remote. This fix worked both times.
Press the HDD and DVD bottons on the player at the same time it will then show DR2 when remote is pressed. Press mode key and the number 2 key on remote, this should now work
There is most likely nothing wrong with your remote. I just had exactly the same issue with my SE-R0161 remote. (I had just changed my remote batteries too and was getting a DR-2 code on the Toshiba DVR RD-XS52 unit's display.) My DVR and my remote had to be realigned so that they both have the same infared (IR) code. The remote and the DVR can have DR 1, DR 2 or DR 3 as remote codes. Pg 54 of the Toshiba Installation Manual explains how to align both your SE-R0161 and your based unit so that the remote works again. Good luck. Hope this helps.
Question (s):
The remote control for my DVD recorder has stopped working. Every time I press a button, the display says "CHK REMOTE 1", "RC1" or "SET1". What is wrong?
Answer/Comments:
Your DVD recorder remote control can be programmed (with different codes), so it can be used with multiple Panasonic DVD players. When you press a button and the display shows [CHK REMOTE #] or [RC#] or [SET#] it means that the DVD recorder and the remote control are not set to the same code.To set the remote control code to that of the DVD recorder, press and hold [ENTER] as well as the corresponding code number on the display (1, 2 or 3) at the same time for more than 2 seconds.
Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ http://remotesearch.blogspot.com/

ok you need to press STAR Button which says mode above it and either 1,2 or 3 to find which freqency is being use. The dvd and the remote need to be on the smae on.
Hold both the channel up and down buttons on the front of the recorder for 3 secs until DR1 shows in the display. Try it and let me know if it worked..
Look into your manual that came with your dvd recorder for DMR-E80H, Page 46, Changing the Remote Control Code. My child played with a remote control as well and reconfigured it as well. In the manual, you have explanation how to configure your remote control again to work.
The romote doesn't work and 'DR-off' comes up on player screen.
