Foot pedal problem

The last time I turned it on, Nothing happened when I depressed the foot pedal. The light came on, so I know it had power. I would like to fix it myself. Any ideas ? Thanks !

I was sewing just fine on my machine and stopped for an hour. When I came back to it and turned the machine on, the light came on but when I depress the foot pedal, nothing happens.

Hi,
your problem will vary depending on the type of foot control it is.
Need more info - ie what machine is it, what identification is on the pedal.
The problem could be in either and you dont really want to pull aprt the pedal for no reason - some of them are tricky to re assemble if you dont know how - you can damage the pedal!

Bernina 1230 nothing happens when pedal is depressed.

Hmm, wonder if it could be a board or ????? You've already tested the foot control and it seems to be okay, so the problem would appear to be in the machine itself. Does the light work? That may be another clue.

May be time for a service call.

FWIW--Here are a couple of posts on a Bernina group:
"

My Bernina 1230 has lost its electric connection. My mechanic says that I need a new power board for $270, $30 for shipping from Bernina, $100 for installation, and $70 for the initial service--a grand total of $470.

---
I bought a 1230 this summer and finally dropped it off for service with
a very reliable OSMG though not a Bernina tech.

He had the machine all tuned up and ready to go, decided to try it one more time, and the machine didn't move. Tried another foot control, and still nothing.

The theory is the internal circuit board is the problem.

I know that some of you have had local electronics guys fix the circuit board problem, instead of shipping it to Bernina headquarters."

What might cause my sewing machine to not respond when the foot pedal is depressed?

make sure the plug for the foot pedal is connected securely to the machine.
could be the plug in the machine has a problem even tho the foot petal is plugged in
could be the foot petal has gone out and needs to be checked.

Machine is behaving as if not getting any power, but light is on. Press foot pedal and absolutely nothing happens

There is probably a bad connection in your foot pedal. Try moving it around with your hands at the contact points while pressing to activate. If it goes when you are shifting its position then it needs to be fixed or replaced.

When I depress the foot pedal on my 2140 nothing happens, yet I can manually sew a few stitches and my light is on?

..... what do you mean by 'manually sew a few stitches'?
If you test your foot control on another machine or vice versa, you can verify if it is the control. Has it sewn a little erratically lately? Could be the contact tracer pins in the foot control.

Foot pedal not working

Well, you are definitely getting power from the electric plug in.

Let's do some diagnostic work. Do you hear anything when you press the foot pedal? Any hum? Did you happen to leave it in bobbin winding mode?

your machine doesn't have a "sew" button for use without the pedal. So please rotate the hand wheel toward you as you press the pedal. Did the motor take over and sew?

If you know someone with a meter... have them test the pedal. (they will place probes on/in the part that plugs in which tests for shorts, etc.) If that tests ok... then we know it's something more than the pedal and it will need servicing by a Singer Tech.

Jones Sewing Machine - When I press the foot pedal nothing happens? The light is on so there must be power.

is the foot pedal plugged into the machine correctly?
if it is then the foot pedal needs to be checked.

How to repair a non-working foot peddle on a Singer 6215C

There are a few things you can do. If you are even a little technically savvy, UNPLUG the sewing machine then take a detailed look at the pedal cord from the pedal all the way to the machine and check for any damage, pinch points, etc. If it all looks good, you should be able to open the foot pedal to see inside. There should be a small limit switch that actuates when the foot pedal is depressed. Manually cycle the pedal to ensure that the pedal mechanism is making contact with the limit switch. Listen to the limit switch as it should click when you first engage the pedal. I cannot tell you exactly what you would have to do to replace the pedal but after you have exhausted what I have suggested, I would take it to a sew & vac shop and they can replace it for you. It should not be that expensive. You can call one or two shops and get quotes for replacing the pedal.

I have a Bernina 830, bought in 1978. When I depress the foot pedal, nothing happens. Power is on. Do I need a new pedal?

I've just fixed this problem by replacingthe main capacitor in the foot pedal. I have a Bernina 830. I needed a soldering iron, and I had to buy the right capacitor, but it fixed this exact problem. Btw, a few months ago this problem initially appeared (on my machine) as an issue where the speed was either zero, or full speed). After a white it wouldn't work at all.
