Not to much can repair / remove the crazy type glues once they are applied to plastics and plastic overlays. Some people attemp to use these not knowing that some types of plastic will not bond. most of the solvents that can desolve the glues will also damage the panels.

SOURCE: How to remove the controls panel cover.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If it's an Amana, WHirlpool, Kitchenaid, etc., and you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

If you need to remove the oven from the wall, the the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool here.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

My GE model # JVM2070SK02 keypad is not working. The fan, lights and boost buttons are working and it is displaying but the keypad seems frozen. Unplugged it but it didn't do anything.

I hate to bear bad news, but this section of these controllers is not repairable. GE does not make separate parts available so you would have to order the whole control panel subassembly. It is part number WB07X10972 and you can get it for $473.20 plus shipping from the Pros here. Or you can get one from Mel-Co Parts on eBay for "only" $304.25 here. It's actually simple to replace that part yourself. You would remove the control panel assembly as shown in our video here, then remove your smart board and attach it to the new control panel subassembly. If GE will cover parts under warranty or because you contact GE Customer Service, that would be a big plus.

How to repair cracked plastic rim on outside of door? Is it safe to use crazy glue?

Yes, crazy glue is safe -- suggest letting it dry 24 hours before using oven. The heat could generate eye-watering fumes.

We see (and repair) this a lot.

The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year repair guarantee.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

How do i change the bulbs on a jvm1870sk03 microwave

That's covered on pages 35 & 36 of the owner's manual here.

Cooktop Light/Night Light

On models JVM1850, JNM1851, DVM1850 and
EMO4000, replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt,
40-watt incandescent bulb (WB36X10003), available
from your GE supplier.

On models JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM2050 and
JVM3670, replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt,
20-watt halogen bulb (WB36X10213), available from
your GE supplier.

To replace the bulb(s), first disconnect the
power at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel
or pull the plug. *

Remove the screw at the left edge of the light
cover and push on the right edge of the cover
to open.

Be sure the bulb(s) to be replaced are cool
before removing. After breaking the adhesive
seal, remove the bulb by either gently turning
(for models JVM1850, JNM1851, DVM1850 and
EMO4000) or pulling straight out (for models
JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM2050 and JVM3670).

Replace with the same size and type bulb.

Raise the light shield and replace the screw.
Connect electrical power to the oven.

Oven Light

Replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt, 20-watt
halogen bulb (WB36X10213), available from your
GE supplier.

To replace the oven light, first disconnect the
power at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel
or pull the plug.

Remove the top grille by taking out the screws
on top of the grille that hold it in place and
sliding the grille to the left (opening the door
makes grille removal easier).

Next, remove the light cover.

On some models, the light cover is located
in the center of the top opening. Remove the
screw that secures the light cover and lift the
cover off.

On some models, the light cover is located at the
left of the top opening. Lift the cover off.

Pinch the clips that hold the light socket in
place and lift the socket out.

Remove the bulb from the light socket by
pulling straight out. Replace with the same size
and type bulb, then replace the light socket and
cover.

Replace the grille and screws. Connect electrical
power to the oven.

* If your control board was damaged (lights won't come on, won't go off, fan or turntable not working right) after a cooktop light bulb blew or was inserted or removed while power was on, see here.

Light bulb broke in oven it is a general electric over the stove type the bulb metal part is stuck in socket

This is pretty common and can be a pain. It's tacked in place with contact cement or hot glue, and sometimes there may have been enough moisture to corrode and seize up.

First of all, always unplug the oven before removing or installing light bulbs.

You could heat it up (hair dryer, maybe?) then use needle nose pliers. Be careful if heating so you don't burn anything.

You may be able to put the tips of needle nose pliers inside the broken bulb's socket, gently but firmly force the pliers jaws apart and then rotate the pliers to loosen it.

Another cool trick is to put a big glob of hot glue on the end of a stick or dowel, then shove it into the broken base and let it cool about 5 minutes, then turn the stick.

Before I install a new bulb, I like to put a little WD-40 or rust buster on the threads of the new bulb, too. Grease, Vaseline, cooking oil, or anything like that will work. Just a thin coat.

Once you get the lights replaced, if you find that they still won;t come on (or if they're stuck on or stuck on bright or dim) then oyu will need to have your circuit board repaired.

Replace Extrerior Bulb

Your owner's manual can be downloaded here. Page 31 covers the procedure:

1 To replace the bulb(s),
first disconnect the power
at the main fuse or circuit
breaker panel or pull the
plug.

2 Remove the screw at the
front of the light cover
and lower the cover.

3 Be sure the bulb(s) to be
replaced are cool before
removing. After breaking
the adhesive seal, remove
the bulb by gently turning.
Replace with the same size
and type bulb.

4 Raise the light shield
and replace the screw.
Connect electrical power
to the oven.

Replace the burned-out
bulb with a 40-watt
incandescent bulb
(WB36X10003), available
from your GE supplier.

Kenmore microwave oven handle came off

You will need a new handle, and you can probably find an exploded view by entering your FULL model number here: http://www3.sears.com (the 3 is correct)

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

We do not recommend removing the door unless it's absolutely necessary.

Microwave touch panel is unhinged at the bottom

The mounting tabs on the control panel frame have cracked off most likely due to age, heat, or imperfections in the plastic.

If the tape idea doesn't appeal to you (*grin*) it will need a new control panel frame. That normally comes with a new keypad, but I would need the model number to be sure.

It is probably going to be referred to as the control panel in the parts list and it should run about $50 plus shipping.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

Also, these units have mini-manuals hidden behind the control panel and they're very handy to use.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Normally you would unplug the oven from the wall, remove the 2 or 3 screws holding the grille in place, remove the screw at the top of the control panel frame, then CAREFULLY lift up and out to remove it.

Then you can mark and/or photograph the wires to be sure they all get back in the same place. Then you can see how the circuit board would come out and then go into the new control panel frame.

If you don't want to replace it, I would suggest that you get it squeaky clean and dry and use a small amount of household cement or Elmer's Glue-All (not super glue) on just the bottom edge, then temporarily use tape to hold it firmly in place until it has cured and dried.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.
