Replacement Drive? If you are talking about a Hard Drive the answer is: You can buy any hard drive as long as it is the same type from any computer store. Take your Hard Drive to the store and tell the sales person that you want another hard drive like that one. You can get another Brand or a bigger size if you want to. Your best bet is to completely reload that hard drive and wipe everything off of it and start all over. You can still buy another Hard Drive (Internal or External) to keep your files backed up. That hard drive could have also went bad.

I am going to give you a lot of things that you can do. Like I said this is a lot of information so you might want to print it out and also copy it to a disk for the future. These things will explain how to check your Hard Drive and also tell you how to keep your system running smooth.

I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future.

Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer (http://www.download.com/Free-Internet-Window-Washer/3000-2144_4-10436825.html?cdlPid=10731707). This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. ([email protected])

Send me the complete specs of your system and I can help you more. I hope that this helps you. There is no reason the really buy a program for spyware when there are free things to use that work great. Free AVG is a great Antivirus and yes it is also free. It will check your e-mail coming and going. It will also let your friends now that the E-mail does not have a virus. It also has a spyware program that is free. This day and time with all of the spyware out on the net you can never have too many programs for spyware. I would not run all of them at the same time though. Make sure that you do not use your computer during any scan. Defrag is also something to do after you do everything else. Some people will tell you that should not reload your computer. If nothing seems to work then sometimes that is the only good way to get it repaired right. Most of the programs that come pre-installed on a store bought computer is useless and most are even trail software that causes problems when they expire. Let me know if this helps at all. Please rate me if it helps.

HARD DRIVE PROBLEM

This sounds like a bad hard drive. What make of hard drive is in it?
Figure out what brand hard drive it is first. Then go to the website of the manufacturer.
While you are on the site look for software for hard drive repair. It could be listed in many ways. Download the windows version if you have another computer to test this in. If you do not have another computer to test this in you will have to use the Dos version. The instructions will come with the siftware.
Then you will go through these steps.
Do you have another computer that you can use to check the hard drive? If you have another computer or access to another computer you can download a hard drive utility that can diagnose and possible repair the hard drive. Is it a SATA hard drive? If it is a SATA hard drive you can plug it directly into another computer that has a SATA cable. If it is not SATA you will need to buy a converter so that you can hook it up to the other computer. This will be an external slim hard drive enclosure. A desktop hard drive can be put in another desktop and used as a slave drive. Just make sure that you look at the back of the Hard Drive and make put the jumper on the slave pins. Then you can run the test through the other computer to test the Hard Drive. The test will let you know if the Hard Drive is bad or not. If you can see your files on the drive you might want to back them up before you start the test. If it comes back as good go to the next step.

FIX BOOT
You can boot it up with the recovery CD and run through it as if you were doing a setup and then when the second repaircomes up..... hit repair. This should repair any problem with the operating system. If you want to try the simple way... use the first repair that comes up. When the screen comes up with a blinking curser hit the number 1 then Enter........ When it ask you for a password hit enter. There should not be a password unless someone has put one in it. If there is a password it should be your master password.
Then type fixmbr and hit enter. This will fix your master boot record. If that does not work use the second repair. Sounds complicated but it is not.

CDROM PROBLEMS / Hard Drive Problems

Check your IDE cable inside that plugs into it. This will be the wide cable. Does it light up? Your power supply could be going bad. Unplug them one at a time and see if they work. Look at the jumpers and make sure the last one on the cable is on Master and the other one is slave. Sounds like a bad cable or connection if you swap the cable and see if it works.

SOURCE: Computer loading/splash screen pixilated and distorted

if you can, hook the computer up to a different monitor and see if it does the same thing. It sounds like it is an issue with your monitor initalizing but the reboot can complicate things. Also if you have a cd that came with the computer you might want to put it in and see if you can re-install your video drivers. One last thing is to check and see if the reboot might have changed some of the settings on the monitor itself. See if you can reset to factory default or an auto adjust. It depends on the kind of monitor as to wich option you can do

Only 32-bit update on Acer site for aspire 5000. Mine:5002WMLi 64-bit Turion Win XP Home. (AMD Turion 64ML 30 processor).

I guess this is black screen of deathh(sic) POST> right?
100% totally dead, no text ever, no logos, no NUTT'IN?
This pc has street value $20 sold on fleabay

besides rotten stinking XP the virus magnet that has no support since 2014?> ?' upgrade to w7 , ok, never run XP.
you are the last to do so it seems.... why?

do not update BIOS, ok> leave it alone.
here is what to do in the correct order,
i cant find your model 5002 at acer.com
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/37?b=1

the last bios update 2008. super decade old PC.a relic,
laptops are like dogs, and dog year life spans, 7:1
so your PC is 70 years old, same as me.
but I don't have 2 dead and shorted batteries do I.?
TESTS:
the main battery out. take it out and leave it out if 10 years old
or even 1 year old. leave it out for all testing, don't trust it,
unless new fresh battey, and charged 24hrs.
nah leave it out. for now.

my guess, Blackscreensofdeath. click flashlight here.

http://pcdied.com/monitors_and_screens/index.html

so that means no text ever, seen on the screen
this PC has stinky CCLF back lamps that most long ago died.
if you use a flashlight, to the screen and see any data all all on the screen turned on, the CCFL are now dead, like everyone else
has 20k hours old, (used)

next up is coin cell, dead, makes BIOS go nuts,(chaos )
they last 5 to 7 years, says the pink bunny, and he dont lie.
so new coin cell $2 fix.
Ok next is what, good CCFL, good coin cell battery
is BIOS screens that is the next goal not windows ever.
once those work, then what is next (serial process)
is HDD tests, no OS on earth loads to any bad OS
and runs, none do,
so we boot to Linux demo disk and run the SMART HDD TESTS
as seen here. (we use USB stick boots)

http://pcdied.com/linux.html

if that passes (rare)
the load w7
or load ubuntu 17

do not run XP ever.
nobody does, now. endless bad bad bad, read it.

http://pcdied.com/XP-sux-sg.html
forget 64bit, ok?
64bit evolved, and became SECURE.

nobody sells XP now. not MS.com
only torrent, hacks full of viruses have XP, is that fun?

RIP for ever XP. !!!

Can't detect XP discs in win 64 bit

Hello Joe, 64-bit processing is faster than 32-bit processing because the CPU is handling more bits at once, However, a 64-bit OS requires more resource than a 32-bit OS, A 64-bit OS requires that device drivers operating in kernel mode be a 64-bit drivers, These drivers must be available from the device manufacturer. An application is compiled to process 64-bit or 32-bits. A 64-bit OS can run either 64-bit applications or 32-bit applications, but 64-bit applications are faster also 64-bit applications cannot run on a 32-bit OS.
A 32-bit OS can only address up to 4 GB of memory, More than that might be on the motherboard, but the OS cannot use it, because it does not have enough memory addresses to assign to the physical memory. A 64-bit OS theoretically can address up to 1 terabyte of memory although in practice, most motherboards can only hold from 12 to 16 GB of memory.( A terabyte is roughly 1000 GB or 1 trillion bytes). If you open many applications at the same time and have high computing needs and enough hard drive space and memory, you can benefit from 64-bit computing. To get most out of it, the processor, motherboard, operating system, drivers and applications must all be 64-bit, and you should have installed the maximum amount of memory the motherboard supports.

Wont to upgrade graphic card my p.c has 2gig max ram in it wonts should i upgrade to to preform its best cheers mike

Depends on what kind of hardware you have
-Memory- 2 gb ram is "ok" if you use windows XP but if you have Vista or Windows 7 you should have a minimum of 4gb ram.
-Processor- if you have a Dual core processor you are ok, if you have a p4 or p3 you dont want to waste money on a new graphics card because it will not help you get better games, your processor and memory will slow you down instead.
So my advice is, if you have a OK computer, go ahead with buying a new graphics card if you computer is old and slow, DONT buy a new card! put your money on +2gb ram instead (cheap, and gives you more benefits) or maybe buy an "upgrade package" with new motherboard-memory-processor.

How to make geforce6100pm-m2 read both memory slots

make sure your memory meets these guide lines.
? 2 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 16 GB*
? * (Due to the DRAM maximum size is 2GB at present, the memory maximum size we have tested is 4GB)
? Dual-channel DDR2 memory architecture
? Support DDR2 800/667/533/400 DDR2 SDRAM
Due to the operating system limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows?32-bit OS.
For Windows?64-bit OS with 64-bit CPU, there is no such limitation
which means win xp will only read 2gig and win vist/7 will read 4g so if you have 2x 2gig and only 1 is registering its working fine with win xp.

I installed 4 Gig of RAM memory but only 3.25 shows up.\r\nis there a test I can run to see if the memory cards are working correctly? Thanks. Paul

It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (32).
The 32 bit Operating Systems are only able to see and use about 3Gb of RAM. To use a greater amount you will need a 64 bit OS (either Windows XP/64 or Windows 7/64) or one of the open source 64 bit operating systems.

No driver for Canoscan FB 630U Vista 64 bit

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

Promble with Ram

No the problem isn't the ram, or video card, or lack of video cards.

The problem stems from using a 32 bit O/S, (Operating System), like Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Pro. (The 32 bit version of XP Pro. Microsoft made a 64-bit version of Windows XP Pro)

A 32 bit O/S will only 'recognize' UP TO 3.2GB's of ram. (Sometimes up to 3.5GB's)
You need a 64 bit O/S so that your computer will recognize all 4GB's of ram, when it is installed.

32 Bit? 64 Bit? What is all of this? It's kind of hard to explain in a few sentences. I would like to refer you to these links on Wikipedia, to explain 32 bit, and 64 bit further,

A.32-Bit:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/32_bit
B.64-Bit:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit
