I have a ceiling fan which works fine, but the lights do not. When I installed the fan, the lights worked fine, and lit up the entire living area quite brightly, but now the lights are very dim. I've replaced the bulbs, but to no avail.

You probably would just need to purchase a replacement switch. Like one of in one of these links. Shop around, compare options to what you have, and make an educated and well researched decision before making any changes to your unit.
According to Home Depot this is the Hampton Bay manual for that model number.

Did someone give you advice on this? My fan is doing the same thing. Fan works fine, but the light does not. Looks like the electricity is not making it down to the ballast - trying to figure out how I can repair it.
