My MP3 1GB has frozen. The device shows the first song on the menu, but will not play the song, move to another menu item, and it will not allow me to turn the system off.

Mine did that too. I tried everything, and then, last night, noticed that the volumn on the screen would change with the button, but always return by itself to level 20. Anyway, I discovered that the volumn button(s) were sort of jammed into the unit. I popped it back out with my fingernail and voila, the player worked fine and faster then when I bought it. I think it was jammed a little from the factory, or else I pushed it in the middle or sideways. I spent hours and hours with formatting, firmware, batteries, useless phone calls to Siren, etc. Check for a jammed button. Too bad Siren doesn't have a true to life support site and/or a usable e-mail address and phone number. They make millions and should be sued for no support. Thanks walmart......

Ok, so I did the same thing, clearing up some hidden files for deleted items, freeing up a lot of space and i made my mp3 player into a simpme usb hardware... but.... the solution was
FORMAT IN FAT (simple or whatever your pc says) NOT FAT32
Now the mp3 finds the songs and plays them.... no firmware needed, and honestly, if its not made this year your wont find any firmware that works
be sure that you have already saved a list of song on your playlist. and for the pdf also make sure that there was a file that save on that location...
While a song is playing, press menu, a menu will come up, the first item is repeat. Press play on this and another menu will come up. move to the correct position and press play again and all is well.
1. First, check your device setting up on MTP or MSC? Turn on device, go to "settings" , press down or up to find "USB Mode", you can see the check mark at MTP (auto detect) or MSC mode. Change to another usb mode.
2. You have 2 ways to delete songs:
2.1. Delete songs by device: play songs, press down (sub menu) until you meet "delete song", select it and yes
If you delete all items in device: Settings, Format, and yes
2.2. Delete songs by computer: plug device to computer, double click on device icon, Music folder, and delete songs you want. If you don't see songs in there, unplug the device from pc, and then change USB mode, and plug device to pc to delete.
Good luck
Delete them through Windows Media Player or reformat the device: Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Reformat the player and try again. You can look at the tips and Tricks in my profile to find out how to format an mp3 player. There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer
itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up
erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as
new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override
the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be
reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware
upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites. WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.
Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or
FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right
click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to
Windows-based computers. You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself: Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media
Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath
the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking
on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of
Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select
"Format." - this should erase everything. -Tha Mp3 Doctor
your ILO has somehow lost its file structure. look for a tiny pinhole to reset the device. if none, then remove batteries to attempt reset. if still no songs, then firmware upgrade if possible or copy file structure (using windows) from a friend's ILO.
