I opened the top panel (thermostat panel that you have to unscrew at the top) and didn't see a red reset button, or anything that looked like a reset button. Totally confused now. Please help?

If there is no reset button, you should be able to turn the breaker off for a few minutes. then turn it back on. if its an electric water heater! it should reset it. good-day !

If you don't have current, 0v from terminal to terminal, then you don't have voltage to the elements. Replace the thermostat but check that you have 220v to the thermostat. It is possible that your breakers to the unit are either bad or tripped.

I would say your water heater is from the fury series; new model number 82V52-2. I've included a link with my solution that you should take a look at. You could also look at water heaters of a different brand if this one isn't available in your area. Kenmore, GE, and Hotpoint are all very good brands of water heaters.

You can open the top up again. I would not turn the temp higher than 130 degrees, maximum. However, there should be above the thermostat a red button. This is where the power wires connect to the thermostats and heating elements. Sometimes this button needs to be reset, press it and discern if you hear a click sound. This means that the high temperature safety switch has tripped open and you had to manually "reset" it. There are two thermostats by the way. The water heater usually works this way. There are two thermostats and two heaters. The upper tank heater turns on first and it heats the top half of the tank. Then when the thermostat above is satisfied it then allows the bottom heater to come on and heat the bottom half of the tank. You might want to set the bottom heater thermostat as well. This is made this way because it is actually faster and more efficient to heat the top half first and the bottom half secondly. Try this first with the reset button. We could check voltages, but that requires a level of knowledge and safety that I am not sure that you are comfortable with. Pictures of the upper and lower thermostats and connections will help if the "reset" does not do the trick. By the way, not meaning or implying anything, but did you move the thermostat in the right direction? Sometimes the dials can be confusing.

SOURCE: Hello, I have a Rheem 81V52D 50 gal. residential

It's probably bad upper or lower thermostat.
BUT... new element could also be shorted.
OR ... original tank is rated 1500 watt elements look at label on side of tank.
I always replace both thermostats to save time.
Lower thermostat costs $10 at Lowes.

Water heater is not heating water, but it is getting electricity (81V52D C)

I would start by checking the circuit breaker and the reset button if the heater has one just to get the easy possibilities out of the way. Next check the ground wire to may sure the ground wire is firmly connected. Electronics need a complete circuit in order to work. It is always possible that the wires have become corroded or broken. Please test the wiring to insure that all wires are unbroken. Please see the link below for more specific information.

Rheem 50 gallon Electric Water Heater 81V52D C repair ideas needed

It could be element shorted to ground through steel tank, so don't touch tank when breaker is ON.
Or you have undersized 12 gauge wire and 20 amp breaker and the heat has loosened breaker on the busbar. Breaker trips when heat exceeds breaker limit. Jiggle breaker and listen for crackling sound.

To restore hot water now:
Turn off circuit breaker, and open top cover then Push in reset button on top of heater to restore functionality. Put back insulation and factory cover.
To fix water heater: test and replace bad element.

You need to first determine if the burners light or not.

As long as the unit wasn't run with a dry tank the unit should not have been affected by continuous water running, unless it got hot enough to damage the thermocoupler which is an easy replacement. That is the part that your pilot/ignitor warms so that the gas valve will open the gas line to the burners.

Yes, turn off leaking water heater because it might rupture.

Sounds like the tank is rusted and needs to be replaced.

I don't have hot water suddenly. Please help me.

You posted under Rheem 81VP which is 6 gallon point of use electric water heater.
3 things can cause problems: Power going to water heater, thermostat with reset button, and 1500watt element.
Check that 120Volf circuit breaker is not tripped.
Open cover on side of tank and push in red reset button.

If reset button is not tripped out or will not reset, and water heater has power, then replace thermostat is best start point.

Rheem 82vr52-2 water heater, I need to do a reset , Can you help me ?

Hello Gwest rxshaw,

I understand that you are having a problem with your Hot water heater and need to reset the thermostats on it. The hot water tank that you have has an upper and a lower element the upper thermostat has the reset in most cases. I will try to walk you thru it.

1. Remove the upper service panel on the side of the tank
2 You will see the black thermostat it has a plastic cover over it and has wires running form the top of the tank to it and wires running from it down ward toward the other service panel. Do not remove the plastic cover as it does not need to be removed and lessens the chance of getting shocked.
3. Locate the dime size red button in the middle of the thermostat press it down and release
4. Listen to the hot water tank you should hear it heating up if the rest worked.
Below is a picture of the thermostat and red button that you need to push.
thumbnail.aspx?q=553552980120&id=f9aa5840c8a1e1de886a4ea3131a35b0 If resting the hotwater thermostat does not work you will need a volt meter with continuity and will will go to the next step and check the elements and the thermostats to see if they are bad. Post back to this thread so I may assit you further.

Thank you for Choosing FixYa.com

The water won't get hot on model 81v52s 50 gallon. is there a rest or how to diagnose.

The reset button is located behind top panel on water heater.

If you have some hot water, then reset is not tripped, and tank has different problem.

I suggest a complete 30-minute troubleshoot using multi-meter from hardware or home center.
When test calls for checking voltage, rotate multimeter dial to 240-250-277 VAC
When test calls for continuity or testing elements, rotate multimeter dial to Ohms
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-water-heater.html

Follow troubleshooting steps from top of page to bottom, and water heater if fully repairable by homeowner.
See label on side of tank for wattage of element.
Second two digits on Rheem serial number are year of manufacture.
Shown below are Rheem 4500 Watt element and Generic upper thermostat.

Rheem warrior glass serial num-rh1098154699 model num-71-40d b That is all the information i collected off my hot water heater we have no hot water at all and i dont know how to fix this problem...

The label would also say if water heater is gas of electric.
That would be helpful information that could lead to troubleshooting.
Serial number tells us water heater was made on Nov 1998, which tells us the manual will not be on the Rheem website.

So if you have electric water heater, and no hot water.
There can be 4 causes.
1) Circuit breaker is not delivering 240 to water heater. Test top two screws on upper thermostat to see if tank has 240V.
2) ECO red reset button is tripped. Open top cover on tank and push reset button.
3) Upper thermostat is bad. Replace thermostat.
