Power Problem I recently got this TV from my brother -who purchased it new back in 2000 - The problem that I'm having is once I've turned it on - finished watching it! and power it off! and won't turn back on unless I unplug it from the wall - and let it sit for 4 hrs - I saw this solution on the internet -and it was called a HARD RESET - once I've done this - and plug it back in - the Green power light flashes twice and then goes steady! After that - It will power up! but - if I turn it off - It's back to the beginning - unplug and wait 4 hrs ?? any idea as to the possible cause or causes? Other then this - they TV is great and has a GREAT picture - It was not used very much - maybe 400 hrs on it? if that. Please help?

Update- I called out a TV electronics service location that I've used in the past with my Mitsubishi 50" that was covered under extended warranty thru Ken Cranes - and used as a authorized repair facility that I've used in the past and trust. They came out and checked out the tv - apparently one of the CRT's had leaked onto the PB Board. They removed the entire chassis and just called to say it's ready to be delivered and reinstalled.

They had to replace the System Module - and the Power Regulator -Parts were $250 - Labor $150. The repairmen also mentioned that the leaking CRT's are common - and they would ensure that I would not encounter this again after they were done! a shield or something that they place on the bottom to protect the board? Does this all sound on the up and up! or did I just get taken???

Well! I'm totally confused - The TV repair place called yesterday to set up a time and date to come out and re-install the entire chassis - So the guy comes out - and installs the chassis - turns the tv on and does the aligment and tuning - (Paperwork) Indicates that the System Module and the Power Regultor have been replaced! Leaves - and not more then 20 minutes later - I power it off - and then try and turn back off! Back to square one! I called the shop back - and they sent the repair guy back out! this time it's two of them - so they pull the TV out - do some testing and think the system board is bad again? how can this be - The removed the entire chassis again and were taking it back to the shop! When asked what the problem was or is? they were not sure - Shows that there is power coming in? but thinks there might be a short! in the System Module?

Could this have been caused when they were connecting the components into the TV? Digital Cable box, VCR/DVD Combo and DVD Recorder ? with possible power on?

Update - Repair placed called and wanted to come out and remove the control panel off the front of the TV - as they were thinking it might/was the cause - However the called back a few hrs later and told me that they didn't need to! as the system board failed! They had it running all day and when they turned it off and tried to turn it back on! the problem appeared! I've got a major concern on this tv and the repairs thus far! $455 so far. This place is an authorized service repair facility for Mitsubishi - However I feel that it's a wasted issue - and I should just buy a new one! I've seen one at Sams Club for $1000.00 Model: R56WH78

This RCA 56" HDTV projection television features a built-in HDTV tuner, 3-Line Digital Comb Filter and home theater sound from a built-in 5-band graphic equalizer.

Update - Well the repair/service man came out and install the chassis/unit and it's now! working without any further problems - When asked about the findings on this latest occurence and problem! he indicated that it was a resistor -and it was replaced. All the paperwork shows are the names of the parts - not the part numbers? System Module, Power Regulator and now a resistor- in which they did leave behind the package it came in! p/n 267P140020 /descp: IC-STR-F6628-HIC - Could this have been the problem from the very beginning?? I think so!...

A few things come to mind, but if you have no solid state experience with TV repairs, you really should let a trained tech do this repair. There is a resistor that changes value in the power supply that goes bad sometime, its R902, a 270k 1/2 watt, A capacitor that goes bad also in the power supply, C920- 10mfd @ 100volts,and R540 off pin 5 of the flyback will open up or cold solder connection.. Remeber stay safe as this is no place to be experimenting with. Good Luck Ps please dont forget to rate this thread.
