I have a Hitachi 653500 rear projection TV. I get pink, green, blue and other color static or snow instead of a usual black screen or picture when a source is selected. The on screen menu and sound works. Whats more confusing is one of the picture in picture displays will work occasionally. A Sears tech called his support line and they said it was a bad signal board. Does that sound right? $450 for the part and another $200 for labor. Thank goodness I bought the extended warrenty!

Re: Signal Board problem
Its the tuner or the signal board and yes good call with the extended warranty. I always say on big ticket items, if your not a repairman, buy that extended warranty. Here is an article I wrote about the subject. http://www.techlore.com/article/14812/ Good Luck

Tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Any colors lines R,G,B mis alignment, have colors shadows pictures or 3D pictures. The tv convergence board, the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead. These parts, must be replaced on the convergence board,to solved the convergence problems. The shop, will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s) This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html
daveT29 - I had my brightness cranked, too. The picture went dark and off-color after moving the TV from one corner of the living room to another.
After waiting for the TV repairman for about 4 weeks, I "fixed" it myself. Take the front panel off (4 screws, then a black panel) and blow out all the dust. I was afraid to use a swiffer duster because of the static electricity, so i just used with my mouth blowing powers.
