I just bought a 30gb philips mp3 player and it workd fine for a week but out of no where it stopd working and shows on the screen that i need to connect it to the pc. but when i do that the computer wont even recognize that is there and i cant get it back to work. does anyone know why this happens or wut to do to fix it.
i was playing one of my jams when it stopped (froze up), the play sign was still intact, the minute counts while a music plays stopped... i held down the off and vol. to reset...the next thing that came up was 'please connect player to PC.' i connected it several times, my computer didn't recognize it no more. Instead it says 'installing device driver...' Does someone have the balm to this misery...! i was playing one of my jams when it stopped (froze up), the play sign was still intact, the minute counts while a music plays stopped... i held down the off and vol. to reset...the next thing that came up was 'please connect player to PC.' i connected it several times, my computer didn't recognize it no more. My problem is exactly the same. It was playing a song, then just froze. I held down off and volume and it reset and says "Please connect player to PC" But, PC won't recognize it and Device Manager is stalling out trying to deal with it!

The Device Manager does not recognize my device when connected. When device is turned on and not connected to PC, it instructs me to connect player to PC. When I do and I launch Device Manager, it does not recognize it or list it as a connected device. The Device Manager does not recognize my device when connected. Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution. 1) Back up all files on the GoGear 2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) 3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button 4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard). -Tha Mp3 Doctor

Connect your player to the pc that has the Philips device manager
running, then reset the player by holding the off-switch and the
volume-+ (plus) switch. If it will still not start as it should, repeat the reset, and as soon as the player shuts off, press and
hold the volume- - (minus) switch. The Philips device manager will
recognize the player now, and recommend a repair, do so.
Try to defrag the drive .... is not workd thn format it manually frm PC n reset the set hopefully it will get back to normal. i did this with mine go gear n its fine now.
If it doesn't work when unplugged and fully charged, that problem is not going to go away. You can do the Repair in Philips Device Manager, but it will erase all of your songs and it probably will not work. The problem is, Philips is all out of these players, and they no longer make any 30GB models - 8GB is the max.

Refer to the FAQ on this issue on the Philips website.

ok...you are almost there...
now go to "My Computer" icon and click it and then find your new drive letter associated with MP3 player. (if you hover it, it should show the 6 Gbytes..or slightly less..of storage available). Click it and you can see the contents of the MP3. Use Mouse drag and drop from there to add songs.
