LCD display missing part of numerals

My LCD display is missing parts of different numerals so an "8" looks like a "0" for instance. From a previous reply, you said it is a control board issue for about $32. I looked at Repair Clinic and they have an LCD display board for $169. Is that correct?

Yes, we repair these displays for $32.50 with a one-year guarantee. Repair Clinic charges $169.35 for the display board assembly. Tritronics (our supplier) sells the assembly with display (part # DPWBFC167WRKZ) for $107.07. On the rare occasions when we actually replace that type of board for our customer (at our cost of only $73.33) we also perform our proprietary fixes on it. We do that so the new display does not also fail in a few months, or even right out of the box! That actually happens!

Whirlpool microwave surface light does not work despite replacing the bulbs. I suspect that a previous renter's cat was fascinated w the on /off switch and burned it out. The light switch operates and the...

I am suspecting that your microwave has cheap chinese relays inside and instead of plating the part where electricity goes through with a high temperature metal that is a thick enough coating they used a cheaper metal. When they do that a relay arcs an spot welds itself open or closed. A strong tap on the control board (once taken apart) will release it. I advise to have a look at the control board for overheating, or burnt circuit board traces as well.

Display window dim

I would open it up and look at the connections to see if any can be replaced. Look for any darkened or burned looking connectors related to the display panel. Hopefully you won't need to replace the display panel circuit board but if you do. I would look for the cheapest replacement starting with ebay parts, and search engines for that specific part. Sometimes there are microwaves of different models with the same parts too!

The LCD display is not showing the numbers correctly. It looks like the numbers are missing "lines", like an 8 can look like a 3, the 8 can look like a 0, etc. Any ideas?

It is the control board that needs to be replaced. The LCD display is connected to the board. If this is an above the stove microwave the problem was caused by the steam from boiling water on the stove top. you can prevent it from happening again by using the vent fan consistantly.

Reduce heat

Normally it's one of these two sequences to cook at 1 minute at 60% power:

Time Cook, 1, 0, 0, Power Level, 6, Start

You can download many Kenmore owner's manuals free.

Enter your full model number at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

On the resulting page, look to the right for the blue "View manuals" button. Click there.

That Sears-related site has many free manuals. While the manuals they list there are all free, they will ask you to register.

Many times, the owner's manual will also have the installation instructions inside.

If yours is not listed there for free, you would have to order it through the
Sears parts site.

No display on LCD panel on my whirlpool microwave

I do not know what procedure you used to replace the door, but if the buttons and display were working fine before you replaced the door then it seems that there is a plug not plugged into the control display panel. Other than that the low voltage power supply may not be providing the needed voltage for the display and only for the logic circuits which are a different voltage. With the microwave unplugged, take the cover off and look at all the connectors and make sure that they are plugged into something and none that are not plugged in. They should all go somewhere. To answer your original question, there is only one main fuse to the microwave. The circuitry in the control panel operates on low voltages +/- 5 volts or +/-12v so that part is not fused. What I recommend also is to go back mentally through the procedure you used to replace the door and that may give you a clue as to what you unplugged, although you should not have to unplug anything.

The LCD Display on the Sharp R-230KK microwave has a problem. It is missing the readout for the center of the display so all numbers are unreadable

We repair these for $39.95, but a new oven of this model runs about twice that...

So if you or someone you know wants to clean the LCD glass, circuit board and rubber connector, that usually fixes it.

If not, then I would get a new LCD and rubber connector. The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it already.
