My Samsung HLM5065W has a high pitched noise eminating from the set. This is independant of any channel signal or external device connected to the set. It also appears worse when first turned on. Although I haven't opened the set up yet, I suspect it may be a filament rattle on the bulb but it seems extremely high pitched and rich in harmonics compared to filament rattle I have heard before. Could it possibly be a fan or maybe the little DLP chip with the mirrors on it, which I have no idea what it is called. I cannot tell the primary frequency of the noise but it is a guess at around 7-15khz and 80-85db so it is quite evident and annoying. Thanks
Replease the color wheel
Only coils and transformers generate this high pitched noise,if you are familiar with tv service you can remove the back of your set and prove touching only the coils or transformers ,once you touch the right one the noise will stop and you can change it,a little pressure will change the tone or stop, use a wooden or rubber handle (not metal) but be careful because the set is going to be on,do not touch anything with your bare hands and stay away from high voltage.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.
No my freind, without being there and looking around its a guess that the noise you hear is from the switching Power supply or SMPS(switch mode power supply. it could be an indication of something to come, as a breakdown as maybe the power supply is being a little bit overloaded for some reason, or could just be a loose transformer or coil winding. Not alot to do with it unnless you locate the source. i would contact Samsung and see if there are any problems like this for this model. If they dont know then the best advice im sorry to say is live with it or call in a tech to check out the power supply or to locate the singing coil. Good Luck PS please dont forget to rate this thread.

Thank you very much. I will check the power supply. You are quite right, it does sound like a coil singing.
Thanks again for the quick response.
