Hello, I've got this big problem. My printer model is hp j5780. It's been a while and my printer is displaying this error message: "Cartridge error: Cartridge on right must be replaced." I've replaced it, refilled it actually and error message won't go away. I was looking for a way to reset the printer or something, but don't know how. Also, i was looking for a way to clean it too, but also don't know how. Is there any chance maybe if u know what to do?
Il really appreciate it!!!
I had this "Cartridge error" problem on my HP J5780 printer. Replaced
the cartridge, but still got the same error. Then removed the cartridge
and used a cotton swab with a little denatured alcohol, and gently and
carefully cleaned the contacts in the printer. Followed this with a dry
swab to be sure no alcohol left. Replaced the original cartridge, and
have been using it for a week now with no more error message.

This type of fatal cartridge error (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", etc.) typically indicates the internal micro-electronics of the HP #74/75 cartridge are damaged. The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. However, our test group has also seen these failures with brand new cartridges. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure. I suggest you first run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on most models which use HP 74/75 cartridges. HP Printers are known to display the cartridge error message. The HP printer cannot recognize the cartridge and will not start printing. To solve HP Printer Cartridge Error problem, you should first try to identify the cause of the error message. To install a new cartridge, first remove the protective strips or tabs from the old cartridge. Next, insert the new cartridge into its slot. Make sure the icon of the colour matches that of the old cartridge.
Remove the ink cartridge
HP printers are relatively new. They have been sitting in the same place since you bought them and have been updated with all the latest software. If you're unable to resolve this issue, you can try resetting the HP printer. To do this, turn off the HP printer and remove the ink cartridge. Once you've done this, test the HP printout and see if the error has been resolved.
Clean the contacts on the cartridge.
Dirt and physical damage can cause this error. If this is the case, wipe the contacts of the HP printer with a cloth soaked in distilled water. Alternatively, you can use distilled water to clean the contacts. In some cases, the HP printer will report an error when a new cartridge is installed. If this fails, call HP to get help. If you've tried the other solutions and still get the error, it's time to check the hardware.
Another cause of the HP printer cartridge error could be a damaged chip.
The chips in the printer's ink cartridges are made to prevent them from being inserted into other machines. A damaged chip in the printer's ink cartridges will make the device think the cartridge is empty and refuse to print. To solve this problem, you need to clean the contacts with non-fibrous tissues. A clean and alcohol-based cleaning solution may be required to repair the problem.
Replace the cartridge.
This will help you identify the cause of the error and resolve it. If the HP printer is not recognizing the new cartridge, it is likely due to a physical damage to the contacts. If the ink cartridge is refilled, you should replace it as soon as possible. If this does not work, you will have to return it to the HP store and ask for assistance. You can call HP customer service and tell them about your problem.
If the ink cartridge is the problem, you must replace it.
You should check the metal contacts of the ink cartridge. The metal contacts of the ink cartridge should be clean. Then, you should place the new cartridge in its correct position. Then, try to print the document. This will help you identify the cause of the error. Also, you can visit HP's official website and download the latest version of the firmware.
