Lens is not opening in the movie mode, unable to record movie also.

When I switch on the camera in the movie mode, there is a warning which says 'mode dial not in proper position'. The camera doesnt open, but it opens with the setup and scene. There is no beep sound when i change to the movie mode from the setup mode or other modes. But, the mode is activated. Also when i try to record a movie in this, it doesnt, I am only able to shoot an image. The menu is also only for image. It doesnt display the movie menu. Kindly help. Very urgent. Thanks.

Normally there are two possible causes for the problem, 1) the connectors of the rotary switch are dirty or not making proper contact. 2) the cable from the rotary switch is damaged. In both the cases you have to get the swith changed.

Display dead on most functions, but not all

The display is ALWAYS dead as long as a cable is attached. To make it work again disconnect the came and cycle power on the camera.

Changed setting and don't know the sign any longer

hi there
the square with the p in it is telling you the camera is in auto focus mode (it is selected by the mode ring on the top of the camera)
there is a switch on the left side of the lens body which should be set to AF
the camera is now in point and shoot mode which is the best setting unless you know what you are doing with all the manual settings.
to select movie mode turn the mode dial to the movie clip icon
press the menu button and use the directional arrows to select the 30 fps option
this is the highest setting
it will give you about 30 mins recording time with a 1 gig card.

hope this helps

Sony dsc-H1 won't switch off of movie mode

When you switch the camera from mode to mode, does it make the click noise to signify that the camera recognized that it changed modes? If not it could be that the switch itself has become unlogged from the switch. I know I had a older camera had this happen before. Try pushing down hard on the toggle wheel and seeing if it will snap back into place. Otherwise the switch inside the camera itself is probably broken, and if this is the case cheapest thing you can do is have Sony do warranty work on the camera. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCustomerCare?storeId=10151&catalogId=10551&langId=-1 Click repair and service under Technical Support. This will get the process started on the warranty work.

A345 stuck in movie mode

you need to open the camera caseing a small amount. As you put the case back make sure the switch is in the movie position so it will engage the switch inside on the circuit board. Looks like the switch has been knocked off the control inside. If you have been moveing the switch back and forward you may have broken it.

UNIQUE PROBLEM: Camera stuck on Movie mode

It's a small world. I have an Ixus V2 on the bench with exactly the same problem. The sliding button on the camera mates with a switch soldered to a flat ribbon cable inside the camera. There are two small teeth which move the internal switch left ot right. What's happened is one of those plastic teeth has snapped off the external part and now it can't push the switch anywhere. If you pulled the camera apart you could push the switch into either record or review but that's it. It will stay in either of those positions. Which is a bummer. The only way to fix it is to buy the complete flat cable ribbon with switch attached and boy it's a long cable. Except for sending it away for repairs (expensive) buy a damaged one on Ebay and do a transplant. Just make sure it's suffering the same fault.
