No DVI video output from dell xps 210

My PC works fine via vga output; but when i change from vga cable to the DVI cable, the monitor just goes into standby as no signal is received. PC is definitely working as I can hear the windows chimes/sounds from the speakers. Anyone any ideas? The DVI output used to work fine but then stopped one day. I changed to the vga cable (which got me back up & running) so I never bothered to look into what had gone wrong; but i now want to make use of the better output quality from DVI. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for all your replies.
I've re-seated the video card but it hasn't worked. and I've now also lost vga output too. I now get a buzz/beep sound as soon as I turn the PC on.
NB. its got windows vista OS not XP.

no, the vga and dvi are separate. I must've knocked something when faffing round with the dvi card. have read elsewhere that re-moving and re-seating the RAM can sometimes resolve the problem... - something else for me to break I guess!!

Ok folks, I've removed & re-seated both ram strips (excuse the lack of technical names), as well as the DVI video card. Both VGA and DVI cables are connected, but only VGA signal is getting to the monitor (VGA is direct to motherboard, i think). DVI Video card was pre-installed when purchased. Do I need to update any drivers? Or seeing as though VGA is working with DVI in the slot and cable connected, does that tell us its knackered? Any other ideas, or is it a case of buying a new video card (not ideal)?

Disconnected VGA, nothing through DVI, so it seems to have had its day. Any suggestions for a replacement? The DVI video card I have now is VIDEO CARD ATIX1300 PRO HALF HEIGHT 256M.You cant connect a DVI cable directly to it, it came with a 'double cable' that allows 2 DVI cables to connect to it. If I need to replace it, do you have any suggestions? PC is a Dell xps 210 (although labelled as Dimension DXC061 in Control Panel|System info). Its small form factor running Win Vista home premium; intel core2 CPU [email protected] 2.00GB RAM; Intel G965 Express Chipset Family; 32 bit operating system.

All i need is to connect to 2x LCD TV (not necessarily at same time) to watch SkyGo & movies (sourced from HD camera and iTunes) in the best possible quality (as well as usual websurfing etc). So HDMI or DVI output is (presumably) best? Do I need more RAM? Keep it simple please (e.g. what does the 'installed memory' on the video card signify). Any input much appreciated. Indications of prices I should expect to pay would also be useful. Is it best to buy new or are used cards a good option? Many many thanks

It sounds like your video card has gone out. Is the VGA and DVI ports on the same video card? If so the card is probably bad.

  • OK, so the VGA and DVI are on separate cards. Usually the VGA is build in on the motherboard and I'm guessing the DVI is on a video card you purchased and put in the slot. Most times the VGA will not even work if the DVI card is in the slot, so I would try removing the DVI Card from the computer and plugging into the VGA Port and see what happens.

  • OK so if the VGA works when the cable to the DVI is not connected that makes sense. You cannot have two connections going out of the computer at the same time. That's why I said take the DVI card out and use the VGA.

Now you might try removing the cable from the VGA and then only plug in the DVI and see if that works. Otherwise, I think your DVI might be bad.

  • Look on eBay for that particular card. Or try www.tigerdirect.com
They have all kinds of Video Cards, might even have the one you currently have. Just make sure whatever kind you buy is the exact same type of interface such as PCI or PCI-E (Express).

SOURCE: Dell 410XPs + Dell 3007WFP monitor issues

The 7900GS does have Dual-Link DVI connectors, but many of them did not support full Dual-Link capability that is required for the 30" display.

Your Video Cards may not support the display, I would try them elsewhere or replace it with a more recent 8000 or 9000 series card

SOURCE: My monitor says there is no signal from my new Dell Studio

Try reseating the video card in your new computer. Sounds like it may not be seating in the slot properly. Take it out and put it back in with the power off and then hook everything back up and then see if you get video,.

SOURCE: I have a dell dimension

Hi sshorne9780,

I see that you are having a check input error on the Monitor/LCD that your are connecting to your Dell tower, please see steps below.

  • On your HP 2310E make sure that your HP is set to the input/source that you are using and make sure that you only use one type of video cable for the issue.
  • I see that you mentioned that you have a VGA cable and a DVI cable, you can only use one type of cable for a video connection.
  • VGA would be the Blue tipped cable connecting to the tower and going to the LCD monitor.
  • DVI this is a black cable connecting to a white port much bigger than a VGA port and is rectangular in shape unlike the VGA
  • moz-screenshot.pngmvincentc_34.jpg
  • and on your LCD monitor check the input type to see video from the tower.
  • everything seems to be OK you just need to change the input of your LCD monitor for the video to show up on the screen.
  • also if you are using HDMI for the video u will need to change the setting of your Audio and set HDMI as the Default to have Audio come out from the HDMI connection together with video, the HDMI viedo will automatically be detected as long as the LCD monitor's input is set to HDMI.
I hope that this will able to help resolve your concern.

Thank you for choosing Fixya,

mvincentc

No signal input wen connected to the VGA port of my Dell M1210 (Win 7). using an VGA to DVI cable. If i connect the CG223 to an old laptop (vga) it works fine.

The Dell M1210 hos only a VGA output or s-video output, both being analog. If you are connecting the M1210 VGA to the DVI input on the monitor then this will not work. You need to connect to the VGA input on the monitor.

DVI ==> Digital Video Input
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card has both DVI and VGA outputs,
then buy a DVI-to-DVI cable, and use it, for a better picture.
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card only has VGA output,
then use a VGA-to-VGA cable.
Or, purchase a video-card with DVI output,
to replace the video-card with VGA output,
and then use a DVI-to-DVI cable.

DVI output problems with Acer Veriton M464

If you are comfortable with opening the case, you can try this: Unplug the power supply, make sure are constantly grounded (touching metal)remove add-in video card. Locate the "Clear CMOS" jumper (usually 3 pins in a row with two shorted via a plastic jumper). Remove the jumper and short the other 2 pins (if originally pins 1-2 with 3 open, short 2-3 with 1 open) for a few seconds. Then replace on original pins. Plug monitor into motherboard video port and power on. If it works, you can leave as is or try to re-install your video card following the same precautions when opening the case and probably changing BIOS settings to utilize the add-on card.

Hi,how do I know wheather I need DVI or VGA cables to connect CPU to a Monitor.I sold monitor when I got laptop now I want set up the Dell Dimension 3100 as aback up,so I'm looking at wide sreen monitors...

Most of the Widescreen monitors come with DVI as well as VGA connector. A VGA connector and DVI connectors are different in many aspects. First of all the DVI connector would be white in color and VGA would be blue.
VGA connector has 15 pins and DVI has 24 +1 pin

Dell 410XPs + Dell 3007WFP monitor issues

Vinod,
That's quite strange as during system startup you should see the Dell POST logo as at that point the card is only running at VGA, and the monitor will support display at this resolution. If you connect with a normal single DVI cable the monitor should display at 1280x800 also.
Have you tried this? Also have you had this monitor working on another computer at all? What happens if you power up the 3007 with no video cable connected? It should cycle through the pixel test screens. If you are not getting that, and you are not getting the pre POST logo during powerup i suspect that it is a screen failure.
