Multifunction keyboard My keyboard also fails to work sometimes when I bootup. Usually re-booting solves the problem, but, it keeps coming back. Also my shift key repeats at the slightest touch sometimes and puts || in front of letters. Replace driver, no fix. Gateway tech suggested a "Destructive Restore" like I'm gonna do that!

Sadly, I have a Gateway M 151-X. It is poorly constructed. Among the various problems that I have had is randomly the keyboard does not work. I sent it into Gately and they sent it back with the problem not corrected. Is this hardware or can it be fixed with a software upgrade?

Gateway also suggested a destructive restore for the shift key repeat problem. I told them that was the dumbest fix I had ever heard of. They finally sent me a new keyboard, but I still get the interment dead keyboard problem. I just Restart and it good for a couple of days.

L20 197 model (celeron) laptop.

In 19 years of working on computers I've seen 1 bad Intel CPU and it still worked it just showed the wrong processor speed. I'd eliminate the CPU being the problem. Generally if you have a bare system with motherboard, ram, keyboard and video and they turn on the system is good. The video may cause a crash if it's bad somewhere in the bootup process going into windows but it shouldn't stop the initial bootup process. The area I would likely suspect is the hard drive. If the arm inside the drive that controls the heads is loose it can cause the drive to read sometimes when cool and then to start slipping and not read when the system is warmer. If you can get into the bios there should be someplace there to check your temperatures and voltages. Those might be a suspect area. If the power supply isn't delivering the proper voltages or the CPU is getting hot could cause problems also. I'd like to hear more about what you're seeing on the screen when this system fails to boot. Does is show the ram countup, system devices and hard drives as detected in the bootup process? Or is the screen just blank. When it doesn't boot does the hard drive light blink continuously?

My laptop keyboard does no work so i cant get past the password on my laptop

is this a bootup password that comes up right away when the power is turned on? If so - then the keyboard, mainboard or the flex cable connecting the keyboard to the mainboard is faulty.

I would reconnect the keyboard and clean the flex cable and its connector, I've found sand inside two laptops so far that had keyboard issues... cleaning the flex cable and the connector solved the issue in those cases.

If that doesn't help, you can try another keyboard or a usb keyboard, if both don't work then the issue is either the keyboard connector or the mainboard is failing, which isn't uncommon for acer, I have a 3000 series laptop that has the same problem - keyboard doesn't work, usb doesn't work either.

Outside of warranty are you?

One beep at startup - System does not bootup

You have what sounds like a RAM problem. Try known good RAM as a test. If it still fails, remove add on cards except video. Make sure that video card works. If it still fails to boot. Replace motherboard.

Wont boot or post

Did you say that you CAN plug in a mouse or keyboard and the machine boots fine, or are you asking if you can do this? If you computer is freezing up at the BIOS screen then most likely you have a failing memory stick.

If you are familiar and comfortable doing so, try removing both sticks (if you have two) of ram. Make sure you have the battery removed and the power cord unplugged. Then try to boot up the machine without the RAM and with only the power cord plugged in. See if you get any type of message or response. Then, hold down the power button to turn the machine off again, remove the power cord, and try booting with just one stick of RAM at a time.

Hp a305w Pavilion No Mouse or Keyboard at first bootup

i would reset your keyboard and mouse settings to default then shut down pc.. unplug components and wait for 3o secs and then try again.. if the problem persists, you may just have some loose connections especially if your pc is older..make sure there is enough slack for your mouse and keyboard wire to move around.. i know sometimes we can ruin them if we have then stretched to far out.. hope this helps.. d
