Printing background and text

I am trying to print transcripts that have a state seal with overlaying text. My printer prints the backgrounds color, seal and borders but not the text. Could it be a printer setting issue.

I want to print metallic gold and gold-foil TITLES on a standard CMYK background with an Alps 5000P. What is the procedure to overlay the spot color where I want to print the gold?

Create a mask or layer for each spot color you want to print using only black. When printing spot colors anything on the mask in black will be printed in the spot color. For foils, print a couple of layers of black ink before you print the foil to get a very good effect. Remember to check the overlay option so the paper doesn't get ejected.

PSC1510 & Vista problem

The problem cannot BE solved. It's yet ANOTHER Vista screw-up.

Original Problem:

"No matter what I try - every page from Jarte prints out with an UNWANTED gray
background.
This does not always happen when I print from the web, make copies or print from
Microsoft Word. I ran diagnostics on my printer HP PSC1510 and it's fine.
Test pages print ok, too.
Please help - I had Jarte on my last laptop (Windows XP), it worked very well
and I liked it much better than MS Word."

I emailed Jarte Tech support and got the following answer:

"The problem you encountered is a bug in Windows Vista. You will see the same problem when using WordPad on Windows Vista. As you have noticed, not all programs are affected by the bug. The problem is occurring because you are using a Windows color scheme that uses a gray background color for text windows. Unfortunately, the only work around is to specify white as the background color to use for text windows. Hopefully, Microsoft will correct the problem in a future Windows Vista service pack."

DOES NOT PRINT IN BLACK

This may sound a bit dumb, but believe me as a tech support specialist, I have seen it happen. If you are trying to print a document, what color do you have set for text? I had a lady who wanted the text to be white on blue on the screen in Word and instead of setting it with a blue background and "auto" text, she set the text as white. White print on a white background (paper) doesn't show up...:-)
