The camera experienced some physical force from the bottom and since then tape does not descend. When I close the tape slot, it closes but does not descend.

SOURCE: loading tapes

I have the same problem. If I remove the battery for a few seconds, then replace the battery and wait about 5 seconds, the tape compartment closes.

SOURCE: tape holder will not close

I am no longer a Sony product fan - this is the most unacceptable performance of any of their prodducts I have ever attempted to use. I have NEVER been able to record ANYTHING with this. The very first cassette - gave me the 'moisture' flashing symbol, and the cassette would not eject. Then after reading a recommendation on this board, I removed and reinstalled the battery a couple of times and the cassette finally popped out - now it won't accept the cassette and close - PLUS will not accept my normal NPfh30 battery and keeps telling me to reattach the power source. and after nummerous tires and camera resets, tried the NPFH100 battery and it tells me that I can not use this battery in the camera. I still get a C:32:11 code and so far this is a non-functional - malfunctioning POS

SOURCE: loading tapes

Sony HDR models that the carriage won't close is caused by the mode switch on the chassis. The mode switch controls the cameras function for loading and loading of the cassette. Basically tells the electronics what is happening. This becomes dirty and causes the chassis not to complete it's cycle on eject. Thus staying open. It has no idea where the mechanism is at this time. It can be cleaned and realigned but the chassis needs to be removed to get at it. Definitely a service depot repair. Sorry!

Sony Hdr hc7 vibration problem

Sony service centre can re-set the firmware to change the reactive feedback loop of the vertical direction of the optical stabilizer (turning the camera on its side will usually stop the vibration). See:

Re-setting the firmware rarely works for very long.
I can fix this by taking the lens system apart and repairing the root cause of this.

The timing cam is misaligned. It will need to be disassembled and realigned. Do not force anything to avoid further damage. Take it in to a camera shop.

Loading tapes

I had a similar issue where the tape bay would not lock in and engage the motor mechanism to load the tape. I removed the battery from the unit and let it stand for approximately a minute then reinserted the battery. The tape drawer closed first without a tape then reopened with no issue. I then inserted a new tape with no issue. I guess it needed a hard reboot.
