Question about LaCie Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a 1TB Lacie external drive that does not mount on my iMac. It did until today. The drive powers up but does not mount. I ran Disc Utility but this drive does not appear in the left hand column. I repaired permissions but still no Lacie drive. I also used different means of connection -- 400 firewire, 800 firewire and USB. It still would not mount. Could it be the power cable?? If the drive needs to be repaired how do I recover the data on it and get it repaired?? Thanks!

I'd suggest to try the device on a different PC. If the issue persists the problem is obviously with the drive itself.

Unistall and reinstall through control panel. use the drivers it came with. Make sure the drivers are for ur OS. If not, check with manufacturer for proper drivers.

SOURCE: I have a 1TB LaCie

First try in another Mac System if possible. If it works then its a problem its a problem with your FW800 port or the OS/drivers.

try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and also update the firmaware.

SOURCE: I have a 1TB LaCie

1. Make sure to copy any files on your hard disk to another location because reformatting will erase them.
2. Click on your computer hard disk’s icon. Select Applications ? Utilities ? Disk Utility.
3. In the left hand column, click on the drive icon for the LaCie Disk (or the name of your external drive). Make sure you click on the first icon, not the second level volume icon.
4. Select the Partition tab.
5. Select the format type from the Format drop-down menu.
* Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (recommended) or Mac OS Extended.
6. Click on the Options button.
7. Select the type of partition you want to use:
* GUID Partition Table - for bootability on Intel-based Macs
* Apple Partition Map - for bootability on PowerPC-based Macs
8. Click OK.
9. Click the Partition button.

My iMac does not recognize the Lacie 1tb big disk extreme external hard drive. No icon appears.

Hello,
the first step will be to verify your power supply. When it is plugged to the wall power outlet, it should be silent (no hissing or high pitch noise) and the green light should be on on the power supply.. If it is not the case, replacing it might solve your problems.
Second step is to verify if it is an interface problem. Try using a different port on the drive.
If no success, start Disk Utility and look to the left if you have any mention of a drive of 1TB. If you do, the partition of your drive might be corrupted. You can try running First Aid from Disk utility if its available, else you will need to try a partition repair software or a Data recovery program.
There are a few available that you can get a free copy to see if the data is available before you buy.

Imac is not detecting my LaCie External Hard Drive

Do you have a CD disc software installer of your external hard drive (F.A. Porshe 160GB).? If you got it, you must reinstall it, so that your Imac can detect it. Otherwise, find it at the internet and download it.
The power failure could have damage some stored data about your External Hard Drive in your Imac. That's why, you have to reinstall it. Send us your e-mail comments for us.

Hi,

There is some thing wrong with file system on your hard disk drive.
Just unplugg it and wait for 1 min, Plugin again.

1) Go to Application -> Utility -> Disk Utility

2) You can see all the drives connected to the machine.

3) Select the drive from left side which acts as external and click on Repair disk button.

Drive won't mount and makes slow clicking sound

A power supply failure can cause this; I've just been through it myself. If you have access to another LaCie drive, try its power supply on the "failed" one and see if it works.
