Blank Screen My screen is completely blank even when the unit is hooked up to a TV. The TV screen displays the DVD but the portable unit screen stays blank. How can I fix this?

Replace the Main board if your not hearing any audio from the set.

Most laptops have a "toggle":
* output video only to internal LCD screen,
* output video only to external HDMI port,
* output video to both internal & external.

Set the "toggle" to the best value.

sounds like a classic psp bricking...sort of

• Have your ps3 in standby mode (red light).
• Now, press and hold the power button in the front down. Your ps3 will beep twice. Let it go almost exactly after you heard the second beep.
• Wait 10-15 seconds. A display will show up, and just answer yes to all!

If the power light does not turn color and stay's green on startup, it is not a power problem. It is most likely the inverter. If the unit is in warranty, send it out ASAP. Contact HP customer care by email and have the issue logged in.
If in warranty, they will send you a box by FedX second day and have repaired.
This is a 19" monitor and will not be worth paying for repairs if not in warranty.

Is the parking brake wire hooked up?

Have you Pressed the Fn + Monitor key to switch monitor modes?
Can you see any picture at all on the notebook screen - even if very faint? If so then screen backlight has gone - this could be repaired but would cost a bit for the spares (it is high voltage so don't try it yourself!).
Cable to screen may have come loose if it is completely dead/black. You could try to take it apart and reseat the cable into its socket (but quite tricky to do).

I don't know if you ever got an answer or not, but we have this same unit and also had this problem. (now we have a different problem) Anyway, there is a small button on the mail base that I think is on the upper right. When the screen is closed the button is compressed, when the screen is opened it should fully pop out, but ours did not. It appeared to be, but if you pressed it in, it would fully pop out and the screen would work. Sometimes we had to do this several times during a trip. For some reason it would not stay fully popped out? We had already taken the exact same DVD player back to Target because of this same problem, only to have the second unit do the same. I bought this particular player because I assumed with the "Eddie Bauer" name it would be quality. I was mistaken. Hope you already figured this out. Sincerely, T

Did you try the laser. If the laser is misaligned it will not pick up the necessary information. It could be a case that this might even be broken, if so return it to where you purchased and ask for a replacement. I say this because this was the problem I had recently.
