Recently I purchased a 2003 camp trailer in which I'm temporarily living. The microwave will come on at different times of the day or night for different time lengths, usually less than 2 minutes. This occurs even though I never programmed the thing to do this. It is frustrating and downright spooky because when I try to cancel or stop the action a few minutes later the thing will come to life and turn itself on. I thought perhaps there was some kind of long range kitchen timing going on but could find no settings other than zero. I can't find any owner's manual and am concerned that a fire might result from the oven turning itself on with nothing inside. Sleeping is also made difficult with an appliance that turns itself on and when cancelled/stopped it comes on over and over after a few minutes after each cancellation. Of course, if I let it cook, it will then beep over and over until I get up and open the door. Is this someone else's programming that I just can't see to change or is this a serious malfunction. Whatever it is, it is really annoying.
I'm wondering how old this is? There should be a date on the model number tag, or an FCC IC number on the label I could look up if you can supply that. You may have a defective control panel assembly. We routinely repair these nationwide for $32.50, but I'd be interested in how old you think this is. Does it do this when the door is open? I really doubt that it's actually cooking when it comes on, but it is possible. If the door is open, that should prevent it from happening. Only a temporary stop gap, though. Another way to find out if it's really cooking when it comes on is to place a cup of water inside. After it has run by itself a couple of minutes, check to see if the water is warmer. Besides the control panel, it might be the upper door switch or mount. You can do a Google search for my text file "doorsw.txt" which gives you good safety info and tips on how to check and replace defective door switches. Let us know what you find.
