Smudged Printing My HP Laserjet 4 Plus printer has suddenly started printing all pages with a grey background all over the front and back of the paper, except on the left and right margins. In addition, the printing repeats itself after approximately 9.5 cm in a lighter tone. The ink does not come off on one's hand when one touches the paper. The printer was serviced about three months ago!

Replace the toner. many remanufactured cartridges will do this due to leaks during/after refill.

Hp1020 printing grey backgroud

Hello;
The most common reason that laserjet's get grey background print-outs is that the toner cartridge's drum has gone bad. I have seen it many, many times on new and old cartridges and the only way to fix it is to buy a new toner cartridge. Sorry for the bad news.
Good Luck!

HP 2600 is printing with a grey background. I have done several recalibrations and cleaned it but it does not fix the problem.

same as me, I got reduce this effect printing in normal paper as if i where printing transparency paper. The background is lighter now, but still appears.
The other thing I test, printing a blank page it was that with a glosy photo paper with the gloss side to the back i dont get any background. So i suspect it has to do with the tansfer belt ETB rollers.

Smudged on right side

If cleaning the print cartridge with the built in slide does not work then you can lightly shake it. it may need to be replaced. Also the cleaning of the drum with denatured alcohol will clear that up sometimes.

HP 2600n grey background

Most Original cartridges are starter cartridges that hold only 1/3-3/4 ink. Drum maybe defective, and this usually causes the grey or black in your printing. Cartridges may need replacement along with the drum. Hopefully this helps

Hp Laserjet 4 Plus printing very light - second post

Your description indicates that the problem is with the printer driver settings.
Go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and check the setings for Economode and ReT. The should both be off or Economode=off and ReT set to Med or Dark.
This should fix the problem. Let me know if this works or not and we can try something else.

Grey background over entire page.

If toner is getting onto the transfer belt, it can only get there by either being put there intentionally, or leaking.

Failure of Transfer Belt is normally degraded print quality - usually poor density, or a failure of the support behind the belt (usually puncturing the belt), and scoring a drum.

Dark Background on HP Laserjet 4100

Several Options:
- Increase the Toner Density Level to 5
- Use freshly opened media
- Use a new print cartridge, if near end of life
- Run a cleaning page to clean the fuser
