Broke screen while trying to fix to windscreen

Has anybody else had a problem with the Tomtom XL screen breaking whilst trying to mount it onto the newly designed windscreen mount.

I bought my Tomtom 1 week ago and the unit was very hard to attach to the windscreen mount. It required quite a bit of effort to attach and lock in the 3 metal springs. The screen itself cracked across the face of the unit even though no pressure was placed onto the screen whilst trying to secure,(i used the outside of the unit to push onto holder).

Having phoned TomTom i have sent the unit back for investigation but i hold no faith in getting a replacement unit. Has anyone else had a similar problem and have you got any ideas on how to sort it out

    Yeah right, Same problem here and TomTom's customer service is tough luck buddy and by the way we don't repair units. Fortunately my credit card purchase insurance paid for a replacement. This mount is a manufacturers defect.

Are you talking about the easyport mount on the XL 330S model? If so it applies fairly easily in a secure snap. When I tested out the new mount, it was fairly easy to snap on without any added pressure. TomTom has great customer service and I'm sure they'll help out to the best of their ability and if it was in fact defective, you're bound to get a replacement. TomTom doesn't want any unhappy consumers. It's a shame it broke, because it is actually a great device.

Do i use both the hard plastic adhesive disc or just the one that holds the tomtom to fix onto windscreen.Mike.

The disc is for attaching your unit to the dash. On the glass, you just need to stick the mount to it. Make sure the glass is perfectly clean or the mount and GO720 will eventually fall off. Also the oem mount is just a general pain at best. I went with an aftermarket mount to eliminate the problem.

When I switch on my TomTom, SD card has a red cross?

This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card, Connect the device to your computer. Open the TomTom Home application. Click on 'Update My Device'. This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you update.

The tom tom mounting for the windscreen keeps fallng off

I have had the same problem a few times. The only thing that seems to help me is to put the mount on the windshield first, ensuring that I push it firmly into place, and then slide the gps unit into it.

It's a default demo. You can remove it by changing it in your preferences, not by deleting files

Attaching the device

YES , try EBAY , search for tomtom vent mount. You can also buy special rubber disks that have a sticky back. The disk can be attached to the dashboard or some other plastic area. These allow the normal tomtom windscreen mount to fix to the disk.

Windscreen holder for tomtom

I didn't like the suction mount because it doesn't always hold very well and it was a little distracting. I found a vent mount at mountguys.com for less than $15 delivered that I am very happy with.
