Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite A205 - S5812, which I bought 3 years ago. The laptop worked fine for the past 3 years until i spilled beer on it.After that, I had to dry it for about 6 hours, and it worked. The laptop works but it started to freeze on BIOS, sometimes after 30 minutes, sometimes after 2 hours, it depends. I installed Windows 7 on it, and it works, but still freezing. I have also installed Ubuntu 11.10 ( dual booting OS ) it freeze after 5 minutes ( no application running ) . I even opened the whole laptop,.I cleaned the motherboard, cleaned the vent ( overheating common problem ). There was some spill traces on the motherboard, I cleaned all that, with 70% alcohol. same problem still. There is another problem too. When the laptop is cold, it starts up. But no power on the screen, no hard drive activity. After i try about 5 times to start it up, it starts finally. It works good, but then it starts to freeze as I said... Is there any solution to this problems ???
Unfortuneately when liquid has been spilled it must be stripped down right away to have any chance of recovery, and even then you are not out of the woods. The only thing you can try is dis-assemble completely, remove all hardware and any plugin devices including any ribbon connections to the motherboard, take a toothbrush with rubbing alcohol and go over every inch of the board and make sure you get the flip side of the motherboard. The keyboard may have to be replaced because it is difficult to clean and keys are bound to start sticking in time.
Remove the RAM and clean the RAM module contacts.
Remove the keyboard cable/connector and clean the contacts.

And, a good day to you!
To start with, I have a couple of things for you to do so that we can get a little better handle on just what's happening.
First,
let's remove the battery, all of the memory (both under the keyboard and on the bottom) and the hard drive. Then
replace one of the memory modules in the slot under the keyboard, and see if it doesn't try to come up.
Whether or not it tries to come up, go ahead and replace the hard drive
and the other memory module and try to bring it up again.
While you have the keyboard out, check the area around the fan to see if it is crudded up with dirt and dust. If so, carefully clean that area.
This exercise may be all that is needed to get it fixed. If not, then continue on.
Secondly,
I need you to try to power it on while you press down firmly (really
press down) in the area just towards the front of the space bar and
just to the left of the touch pad assembly. Hold it down while it tries
to go through the entire power up sequence.
Then let me know what happened.

You might try a Hirens Boot CD, un-zip the files, create a bootable cd from the .ISO file and boot your troubled system, select virus scan on boot.

There is a common problem with this machine; the mother board flexes and the processor mount partly separates from the motherboad. You tube posts a couple of solutions but they involve taking the laptop apart and applying heat from a heat gun to resolder the mount; it is not a solution for the faint hearted. Thinkpad/Lenovo might consider reparing the unit as it is basically a desgn/production defect but don't hold your breath.

If you do it this way, you should not have to open it. All I need from you is to answer one question: When you say the keys are sticking, do you mean that the key is stuck in a pressed position or the key can stilled pop up and be pressed down? `If it is stuck in a pressed position, then you just need to get something thin and flexible like a credit card to get into the crack between the keys. To pull up the stuck one, insert the flexible object into the crack and slightly wiggle it until the key pops up. Do that with all of them. Then get a can of keyboard dust remover with a straw and aim it in the cracks that were beside the stuck keys. Spray it in each area for about six seconds and try pressing the key to see if it sticks anymore. The condensation that comes from the spray should free it up making it stick no more. This should work.

Norton antivirus takes big space in the computer coz it try to block all the files and make them secure, so it slow down your computer specially if you have vista and with low Ram. so First Try to remove norton and check your computer? it seems the Ram is low so its unable to continue its froze, or if you feel its over heat, check the fan on the Cpu could be not working which make ur Cpu Froze.
