Question about Symbol CS1504 Handheld Barcode Scanner
When plugging in the USB cable the scanner green LED flashes briefly but the PC just does not flinch - it does not recognise the thing at all. Also tried plugging it in via the serial connector. It came with a Serial cable and serial to usb converter. I also tried connecting it with my blackberry usb cable which has the same connector at the other end. Again nada. Any ideas welcomed. Carl
This scanner may not be supported in XP. I have been using this scanner for a couple of years on my pc and now I have upgraded to XP and it wont work. the driver is not supported! I am looking for a newer driver that is supported by XP

Your USB ports on your computer may be bad. Do other devices work if you plus them into the same USB port? You can try plugging the scanner into another PC with USB ports. If it works in the other PC, then that points to the original PC's USB ports. You can try buying an add-on USB port or using other USB ports on the PC. If it still does not work, then there may be a problem with the USB port on the scanner, and the scanner itself may need to be serviced.

If the main power button LED is flashing or solid yellow, this could indicate a hardware problem.
Was it running good before?
Are the diagnostic LED lights all green?
Here is what dell says:
If the power light is blinking amber —
The computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Do you remember what the BSOD said?

Hi, yes it is a thought - USB ports seem to be very temperamental - some days they work with some devices - other days I have to swap them around. Anyhow, I tried your suggestion and another USB port recognised something when I plugged the scanner in - in Windows explorer 4 devices showed up at once - all one kind of disk drive or other - clicking on each in turn however all ended in the message "insert disk into drive XYZ". So, what next? Should I try working on the Serial connection - how does that work? Thanks in advance, Carl
